Guys with early AOD trans... Any info on the guts?

So I have been fighting my car's (1984 302 aod) tendency to shift into 3rd at 20-25mph and OD at 35-40mph. I did the carb swap and put on a lokar TV cable and currently have the pressure adjusted to 2-3 at idle and 33-35 with the lokar tool installed. It shifts more firmly but still sucks. I've also recently changes the fluid, but still no perceivable improvement. I plan to add a cooler. But should this car really feel like it weighs 6000lbs when driving it even with te factory 3.08 gears?

My question is does anyone know what OD servo and governor are in the '83-84 v8 AODs? If it's got the low rpm governor I could definately understand the issue.

If anyone else has run into this problem and cured it let me know. It's really aggrevating.

More than likely your car has the low rpm governor. The only cars that got the high rpm governor from the factory were 5.0 HO Mustangs and Mark VIIs.

Adjusting the TV cable to be at MAX with the throttle all the way open might help some.

Shift kit/upgraded valve body and the Trans-Go Hi Rev governor.

Adjust the TV valve so that when you are cruising @ 50 MPH and got WOT, the transmission will give you 2nd gear.

I actually talked to a guy, Kevin I think, at Baumann this morning.  He thought the car should have the middle range Mustang governor and there was a problem somewhere else. I wasn't sure because I had read that all AODs got the low rpm governor until 1985...

I also talked to the guy at Silverfox valve bodies and he said it should have the low rpm governor. He said he would se me one for $50. I guess I will try that first and if I still have problems I will tear into the valve body.

On a side note, the Baumann shift kit looks quite nice, if you read their reviews. If the governor fixes the problems I will look into adding their shift kit.

Dan Gilsdorf aka Silverfox is the person I would trust on the issue.  He knows these transmissions.  I have one of his valve bodies.  WOT shifts are at 6200 RPM in my AOD without having to do any 1-d-1 shuffle nonsense.  I can change the shift points with a set screw on the VB as well.  It can go to 6800 should I wish.  Wouldn't do any good with my setup to go that high though....

I cranked up the TV pressure to 35lbs with the Lokar tool and I am getting much better shifts at somewhat better timing. I still foresee a Mustang governor in the future and possibly a Baumann shift kit.
