All electric, no air, louder than stock yet not stupidly so (at least in MY opinion).


Apparently they take a good amount of of current to run.  Now that I have the new alternator and the charging system figured out, I can do this.

I'm actually wanting to run the old school late '60's-early '70's horns with the trumpet as opposed to the ones that came later.  The problem with that is packaging and availability.  I don't know if it's the sound clips I'm listening to, but the older ones sound a bit different as well to me.  Is this actually the case?  Never heard them back to back in person to compare......

I'm looking for some stock horn wiring diagrams for the following vehicles:

1987 Mercury Cougar

1969 Cadillac Fleetwood

1990 Cadillac Fleetwood



I know the 4 note setup consists of the following notes:  A,C, D, F

I was wondering if anyone knew what the notes were on the older setups a la 64-72?

What about the horns from a Mark VII? The horns on my Mark VII are louder than the ones on my Thunderbird. People think it sounds like a yacht :rollin:.

AFAIK, the Lincs just had standard high and low note horns..... They might be different notes than the stockers on the Catbirds.....

Basically you want a freight train horn? The Cadillac horns "should" work. I probably is just a couple wire hook up like the stock horn.

I'd actually prefer to have the old school sound that I BELIEVE is the high/low standard horns and the 9 inch trumpet.  There's a set up on eBay right now but its overpriced for the condition in my opinion.

I'll stay with the horns the Sport was born with.

Like I said, I THINK the particular set I'm looking for is the standard Hi-low with the 3rd horn which is the trumpet.  I know there are a few different trumpets as well, the unicorn being the 24 inch long from what I believe is the '62 Eldorado Convertible.  Most others were the 9 inch style trumpets.  They sell the later 4 notes (the 4 conch style) on Ebay for about $70 refurbished and with a warranty.

A friend was doing some work on a co-worker's 1974 Impala 2dr coupe, it had a "snail"-style modern type horn, but it was BIG (about the diameter of a CD) and he scared me by hitting the horn while I was leaning over the header panel checking out the engine bay. That horn was not like a locomotive air horn but was WAY louder than any typical late 80's or newer horn. My stock Cougar horn seemed absolutely useless compared to this thing...

Aside from the Mustang crinkle headers, still looks like it's only 150 HP...

Probably the dual snail with a trumpet setup.  Caddys had it until the late '70's I believe.  I know other GM products received it as well. 

My offer was declined, yet the item "sold" within minutes of my offer being declined.  I'm guessing the seller took the item down and will relist it without a "make offer" option. 

Guess I'll keep looking.

Found a set of horns for a good price,  4 note later style snail horns with the 2 wire setup.

I'm looking to wire it in with 2 relays similar to how it is shown here:

I can get the relays with a pigtail setup for $10 a piece at the local speed shop.  They're weather-proofed to boot. 
My only issue is the fact that I don't know how keen I am in running the power wires direct to the battery.  In my opinion it gives a cluttered and non-stock appearance.  The point of my going with these as opposed to an airhorn or the like was to give a stock appearance.  Something that the factory would have churned out.

Guess I'll be hunting for Caddy EVTM's....

Possibly run one larger wire to the positive side of the starter solenoid with one inline fuse and then split the power to the relays?

X2. My crown vic had a bracket that came off of the solinoid with another stud to attach additional fuseable links to. You could put the fuse right by the horn if you wanted to hide it, or use a fuseable link.

These draw a LOT of juice.  I would never even attempt this with a stock charging system.  I think an inline fuse would work better than a link in this case.
