the wife found a new love

Now,, think about the year of this car and what you would expect to be wrong
now understand that for the past 15 years this car has been in a garage.  This diamond in the ruff has beat father time in my opinion.  There are things about mustangs that are understood to be wrong such as where the trunk meets the rear qtr panels.  In that seem, there is alway rust holes so its rare to find one like this without holes.  The only major is a hole in the passanger floor pan which has been patched but not a good patch.

Othere than that folks,, this stang makes you feel like you rolled the clock back to 25 years and your dealing the the typical minor issues of a used car.

the 300 6cyl is original and the chassis has the normal corrosion you would expect from a car with 8 to 10 years of use,, not a 38 year old car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
here are some pics..,, i got some under the car shots also but they are pretty dark.  the underside is so cherry.

One thing i noticed right off was the fact the the windshield was not fogged up around the lower trim!!!!!  its hard as hell to find a factory windshield without the fogged up glass!!!


The guy wants 2500 ,,, Turn the key and drive it home today.  Now where else could you find a 67 mustang that you could simply vac the rug and armoral the leather and take er for a spin?

The wife says it would make her a good project while im gone and wanted to see if you guys could offer advice now and again if she created and account here.

that should only be a 200ci engine in those, with basically a tractor carb

yeah they have cruddy carbs. but with some work it could be pretty good.

Scott by the grille and dash thats a '66. IF they say its a '67 you better check the title and vin numbers.

Its beggin' for a 289 and a 5 lug swap....

I honestly overlooked that especially the dash part.  I use to have a lot of details like the in memory but since lost it all to the cougar.

we wont do the purchase just yet, we're playing it safe till payroll kicks in.  Its up the the wife at this point but she's tossing out pretty interesting thoughts like,,"wonder if an engine like my bronco would fit in there" :D  i like the way she thinks!! :bowdown:

A 200 can be swapped out for a 250 I6, which has the Windsor bellhousing bolt pattern. Also, a head can be imported from Australia to give EFI to any of these small I6s with a little bit of modification. (tweaking to the bolt holes, I think is the main thing) Hell.. a crossflow-EFI 250 I6 would be my next option for the big swap if the 300 I6 wasn't around and a possibility to go into the '86.

Don't get me wrong.. there's nothing wrong with a 289.. it's just that I'd like to see a few more cases of people doing more with I6s they have than just automatically yanking 'em for a V8 swap. That is the reason I don't watch that Overhaulin' show, because they just automatically yanked the I6 from an old 60s Rustang and put in a small block on the episode I watched. Personally, if my woman convinced them to work on my '86 T-bird (hypothetically speaking, anyway.. it would never happen) and swapped out the V6 for a 5.0, I wouldn't want the  car how it ended up. I have three 5.0s sitting here already.. two of them HOs.

but, imagine the mods to the 289 so its running fuel injection and an eec ect ect.

Might as well just put a 5.0 in it that way. Or, like she said, a 5.8.. :evilgrin:

I don't know.. I tend to think 289s belong in things that got the K-code 289s. Don't even know why. Maybe it's because I elevate the 289 to some special prestige level it may not even fully deserve. We all have our own versions of the rose-colored glasses we look at the older stuff with. Like for example, I love the 390 from the early 60s.. while Tom thinks it's a complete dog.

A 351 will fit but it's rather tight, I'm thinkin' its a perfect for a 289/302 streched to a 347... Jegs has the ballanced stroker assembly for $1103, shipped to your door(I'm ordering one soon).

They were not all dogs... The solid lifter triple carb and police interceptor versions were fairly healthy.. The Z code hydraulic cam 390s were peppy with a 3 or 4 speed, but with the weight of the big Galaxies the automatics just plain sucked(IMHO, yea I owned both).

Scott IF you want that Stang, better grab it fast... Thats a very good deal....

The one thing I'd check though is the cowl area... Thay are very pr0ne to rust out, dumping water into the floors. You said the floor was rusted out, that moisture came from somewhere....

Yeah, that cowl area is a real monster.  It could be be Rust City in there. Tell her to get that car.  No computer  to mess with, no complex wiring, emissions, or other BS to get in the way of a good time project.

There is a great magazine named "Auto Restorer" that just did a really great series of articles on I6 engines and what can be done to them instead of junking them for the large motors and keeping it true to the build sheets more or less. If you'd like I can photocopy the articles and mail them to you guys. 

And yeah, tell her to sign up and we'll help her with whatever car troubles she might have.
