couple questions about the bird

First thing is i just got tailpipes of a 94 mustang there allready in and fit pretty good but they have the lers aswell and the ler dose not clear the fuel filter. I am trying to relocate the filter but the lines not long enuf for where i want to put it is there a way i can cut and splice or is there a adapter that will make the line about 6 inches longer?
Aswell how do i find out what my car is. Turbo coupe. Elan. Ect?

Advance Auto will stock plastic fuel like repair kits that you can use to splice the thing and make it longer.  One side will have the right fitting for the fuel filter.  I will warn you though it is super hard to get the metal barb in the hose.  It's a very tight fit and you may need to buy a smaller barb than what comes in the kit.  Also a heat gun can help with this process.  I personally removed the fuel filter in that location to clear my lers but I have a strainer on the pump since it is a high flow pump.  I have an access hole in the trunk and changed the strainer after 2 years.

Also if it doesn't say Heritage, FILA, Elan, Turbocoupe, or 30th anywhere on the car then it's just a base model sport.  An 85 with a 5.0L could be a 30th but most likely it would have a badge saying so somewhere on the car.

My old V-6 Bird, my last 5.0 Bird, and my current Sport all had the same markings....basic emblems.

The first half of the VIN will narrow it down...TC's, Sports, and whatnot had their own number...I don't know if the Elan and Fila cars did, but I'd say there's likely that info to be found on the door sticker, if you knew where to translate the codes...

For example, my 1988 Sport VIN goes something like this: 1FABP61F1JH199899....the "61" in my instance indicates the "Sport"...and as far as the '88 Sport cars went, that was the only thing on the car to have any kind of numerals or letters as such. No LX badge, etc.

As for '87-8 cars, 60 means base model, 61 indicates the 5.0 Sport, the 62 designates an LX trim, 63 wasn't used, and 64 is of course the lovely TurboCoupe.

My 86 is a gs, and the 87 bird is an lx. as far as i know, the base 87-88's were all lx/ls, then the sport and tc were higher trims obviously.

83-86 you had base/gs, ls/elan, turbo coupe/xr7, then the odd balls.

87-88 Thunderbirds came in base, LX, Sport, and Turbo Coupes. The base was, well, the base car. The LX was the fancy optioned car (ie Heritage/Elan). The Sport was the 5.0 car with Turbo Coupe suspension. The Turbo Coupe was the Turbo Coupe ;).
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

You could options the.base out as well though. i had a base with power everything and all the fancy stuff. You are correct though.

i was thinking of the cougars that went ls and xr7 in 87-88. I don't beleive they had a base option.

Lx's came in a lot of versions. What ever, The customer would want.

87-88 LX Thunderbirds had some options you couldn't get on a base Thunderbird such as leather, rear seat armrest, and heavier carpeting.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

Thanks for all the replys you guys are awsome every question i ask gets answered by everyone :)
From what i have come up with i think just a base model 5.0.
Allready got the fuel filter figured out just the repair kit custom siad and made it 6 or so inch's longer and just moved it down
All your guys birds/cougs are so nice i envy all of them mine runs great but the paint is multi color :(

I have got to say for a first car this car has made a huge impression on me i love this car and ill probabbly own more then one in my life time
 but i have got my self in some trouble with it :burnout:

Be careful Richard. my first car was a 1986 gs 5.0 cougar. I'm on numbers 8 and 9 now. first was a $110 impound.

i have had my fair share but never have ben impounded.
My first one was i took the car out for a spin before i got my license the day i got the car. Going way to fast and got pulled. I got license the day after that

Of all the vehicles I've owned, a Thunderbird is the only one I've never gotten a speeding ticket in. And I've gotten a lot of speeding tickets.

My '92 F truck, the entire time I was driving it, I never got ticketed once in it. Pulled over 3 or 4 times. Once, I'd just got into town to go to work, about 11:30 at night, cop lit me up, and accused me of driving through someone's yard. Although I told him I'd just gotten into town, and had been to wal mart to pick up something for my supper, he insisted on looking at my tires and wheelwells. Nope, no grass caked in anywhere, but he still thought it "prudent" to warn me to stay out of other yards. (his words).

Not to sidetrack, I had one other run-in with that asshole, and not long after that, he no longer was a cop for the city of Brookfield MO. Hmmmm.

Anyway....having a lead foot doesn't pay, let me tell you. A year of high risk insurance AND a vehicle payment...thank god I was still living at home or I would have starved lol.

I have not gotten a ticket in a while. I have ben better about the led foot.
Trying to get my bird to the track but i don't no what needs to be done to my car.
My insurance got to 110$  month its going down slowly but it is still 101$ a month
But if i had to do the high risk insurance from this state its 5 years not 1 so im glad the judge let me go on that one
I did everything they said so they dropped most of the tickets. Still had to pay the fines but most of them did not go on my record :)
I crammed like 5 tickets in one stop. alltho i have had alot of fines and all that i have only ben pulled over twice.
Butt then again i am young and have only ben driving for 5 or so years... seems like nothing now adays
