OK. I'm either blind or.... April 08, 2014, 05:18:56 PM Who knows.....Anyway, I scored a N.O.S. underhood light and wiring harness for my car. In the entire time I've owned it, it never had one. My old 87 3.8 did, but that was 17 years ago.... I cant remember for the life of me how the wire was routed and can't seem to find where the harness plug in....Anyone? Quote Selected

OK. I'm either blind or.... Reply #4 – April 08, 2014, 09:00:24 PM Hmm. I saw where Dave's cam out. Pretty sure mine is clipped. Too dark to check right now. The light is tripped by a mercury switch, yes? I'm guessing it's built into the bulb housing? Quote Selected
OK. I'm either blind or.... Reply #5 – April 09, 2014, 03:16:21 PM Yep the light is tripped by a mercury switch like the trunk light. The switch is in the bulb housing. Quote Selected

Anyone have a pic of the correct location for the light itself mounted on the hood?Paul, it goes on the drivers side of the hood underside. the plastic sleeve over the wires covers the portion that would be exposed from the wiring harness to where the wire meets the hood insulation. The rest would be attached to the hood underside and the only parts actually exposed are the light itself through the insulation and the small sleeve i mentioned earlier. This is a shot of my 83 Bird. The lower harness is in the same spot as here, the light itself is on the opposite side (Drivers) in the same location on the 87 Cougar. Quote Selected
OK. I'm either blind or.... Reply #8 – April 10, 2014, 12:44:49 AM Got it. Now I just need a new 89 bulb. Almost 30 years of sitting turned the glue on the filament ends to dust. Now for my BIGGER issue. I installed the trunk light I got as well. Nothing. Testing it with a 9 volt shows it works as it should. I'll check for power and ground tomorrow. The plug it goes into should be hot at all times according to the EVTM. Guess I have a break somewhere......yay. Quote Selected

As for the trunk light, check the fuse panel, and see if there is a fusible link in line somewhere between. Bad bulb perhaps? Quote Selected
OK. I'm either blind or.... Reply #10 – April 10, 2014, 01:05:11 AM I probably have an 89 in my stash. As far as the trunk light I tested the harness and the bulb with a 9 volt. It lights up. Problem is further upstream. Quote Selected
