when you told me that ,, i knew it would be a pipe dream... could only wish to make it out to that pick and pull.
I was engineering a 3M$ project for comcast, worked about 8 or 9 hours on site then another 8 or so hours at the hotel.

got back to lewisburg only to find out the long term parking lot was used as a dumping ground for snow.

the top of my cougar (THE TOP) was even with my belt line,, naturally the door was blocked.
started the car and it ran for about 20 to 30 min while i dug out the bare min snow to back out.

pulled out of the airport, and my full digi cluster temp reading was going up and down like ive never seen... figured it was just coolant in the block that was kinda slushie ,, figured it would break loose. 3 miles away i finally ran out of heat so that told me the problem was real.

calculated my odds of how far i can drive before the engine locks up,,, humm,, its 12 outside,,, ambient air ratio to engine temp,, ok ill let it be an air cooled block till the autzone 3 miles down the road.

made it to autozone,, added 1 gal of coolant, then another gallon,,,, watched for leaks,, there were none. No hoses blown, no radiator leak.

apparently the engine dumped all my coolant out of the over flow.... never had that happen before,, i feel i got off lucky because that would have sucked to be broke down out here in this cold.

leasons learned.... put my telescoping shovel in the trunk,,,, and,,, well,, there was nothing i could do about the coolant issue.

dude, glad you made it home though.

What caused coolant to over flow? Snow packed in the grille or something? buddy of mine is wanting to go to the yards one of these weekends, I told him yesterday I would go with, but not on one of those days where it was 30 or colder.

I'll pick up some GT40 stuff for ya, and either deliver it, or we'll figure something out. You gotta outta here just in time, we're in for another round of sub zero temps the next day or so...what IS with this bitter cold , anyway?

Scott, check the restrictor in the heater core hose. On my old black '86, the restrictor (washer) rocked back and forth, causing temp fluctuations as you describe, until one day it weakened the hose so much that it blew out a mile from home. On older hoses that could be a major problem. Just a thought….hope you enjoyed the burger, that looks pretty good.

the OEM heater core i installed last year is holding well along with the hoses.
i stuffed a small socket in the hose for restriction.

to be honest, i think my tstat just stuck shut so something had to give,, lucky for me the radiator cap presure relief springy thingy was working.
I just drove out today and nothing happened... its all working fine.

man,, that would be super cool~!! i am hoping to start building next month ,,, but im suspecting we may rather hold till march.
next purchase is to swindle some parts from vinnie,, then buy a 331 or next up... then obtain heads.

gotta update my wanted list,, thanks for thinking of me but if you forget or cant get to it thats ok....

No worries. I need to snag a set for someone else too, and they're cheap enough. Might grab me a set just to have around for later, in case someone local needs a set.

When I go, I'll see what they have first, and get some, the up front cost is not an issue. Hang tight, may be next weekend, if the weather would warm the hell up for more than an hour at one time..ughh.
(we're going to get to 50 or so, then boom, right back down to around zero by evening.

I've got mail on my phone, so I can contact you once I'm there and a donor is in front of me. Plenty of time. :)

We stopped there when we made a quick weekend trip to Cleveland back in May for a friend's graduation. Awesome place and you won't be able to finish the sandwich.
