Tail light socket info needed.....

I'm hoping to install my sequencers for the tail lights asap. I need to add a new socket to the inner light on each side so it will be an actual brake and signal light. How do I do it? I'll use the same kind of sockets used in the other two lights on each side.

I had this figured out a long time ago when I had the sequencer I bought from Carmen, but he's folded up that business and It's been a while. I can't recall how those were hooked up.

Just in case, I have the STS-1 kit. I gotta tell you......It's like reading a foreign language. if anybody has a little time, and wants to help me through this, feel free. And remember, I hate electrical stuff!!!!

I'd be glad to send a polished 65mm professional products throttle body to the person who can get me all the way through this. I have the harness that is going into the trunk right here, so I can see the colors and where to splice.

My factory harness has some bad wires, so, i got this one from a minty car at the boneyard and will splice it into the main trunk harness tomorrow or Monday (only seven wires to match up).

And I have to add a light sockets to the inner most brake lights.

Under "Questions" on that site, it ask "Do I need another socket?"....I do. BUT, my lights seem like option "F". It states if that is so, move the middle socket to the inside, and add a socket to the middle. Holy . What the hell...............

Maybe one of you can understand this mess better than I.

From what I get they want you to move the middle socket to the first location so that you do not have to redo more wiring than necessary. It looks like the first light is wired to the car harness and to the red wire in the module, then the module sends the signal to the middle and outer light.

I wired dynamite sticks into a 68 mustang this summer and this looks to be the same. I had to install a heavy duty electronic flasher so that the lights would go all the way thru the sequence before starting over.

How do you add another socket for a brake light? I have to assume that you would need the wiring (black and brown wire) that go to the inner most light (Not the backup light).

My car has two brake lights per side, and a third light that is just that, a light. Not for brakes or signals.

The kit has three sections to it....first, a small bundle of wire, a black one and a red one.........second, the actual sequencers for each side that have a red, blue, white, black  and green. They  are identical and it says they can be used on either side because they are the same.

As I stated, I do not understand how one would add another socket, and make it work in the middle position.

I need a patient member who can walk me through it like I am a 5 year old. This is NOT my strong point in cars.

I think I need an expanded version of their instructions aimed at our cars......red wire to brown wire at "this place in the harness", and especially the added socket thing.....how?

ALSO.........does anybody have the breakdown of the wires for the tail light harness?

There are,

2-larger pink with black stripe
1-black
1-black with pink stripe
1-orange with blue stripe
1-brown
1-green with orange stripe

Then...the bulb sockets....

Driver side.....

outer bulb....two green wires with an orange stripe
one brown wire
one black wire

middle bulb.....green wire with orange stripe
one black wire
one brown wire

inner bulb, different style, ....one brown wire,
one black wire (that is the socket that would have to be replaced)

Passenger side, same wires, but instead of green wires, there are orange wires with blue stripes

Light green/orange= LH turn/stop lamps

Orange/light blue= RH turn/stop lamps

Black= ground

Black/pink= reverse lights

You are powering the lights on side independently, so you have right and left powered wires. LG/O and O/LB. Ground is common, and will  be the black wire.

The brown wire is for powering the running lights.  You will need to connect it to the extra light socket you are installing in place of the single filament running light only socket. It will also have a black ground wire.

the extra socket.......wouldn't it be removed, and the new socket use those wires, plus hooked up to whatever makes it work as a brake/signal light?

The extra socket....which is the inner one that has to be replaced, already has a brown wire.

This post was mangled.

It appears you have a car without system sentry.

Also, who does one socket have one power wire, and the other has two?

Correct. You will be harvesting 2 3-wire (2 filament bulb) style sockets from your parts bin. One for the right and one for the left.

You will be cutting off the 2 2 wire (brown, black wire) sockets.

The sequencer gets it's signal from the LG/O wire on the left side, then does it's magic and sends out 3 DIFFERENT signals to the 3 sockets. You will be intercepting the original signal (power) and the sequencer sends it out to the three bulbs.

The power comes in to one socket and back out to the repeater socket, so it will have two identical colored wires. (left and right)

______O_____O

Two wires on the first O, one in and one out carrying same signal voltage. (Brakes or turn signal.........the same wire is for BOTH turn and stop LG/O on left, O/LB on right)

So I hook up the black and brown wire from the running light plug to the black and brown wire of the "new" plug, then run the third wire where?

ALSO...It states in the instructions that the inner light housing, once changed to the new socket, moves to the middle position, then the middle socket moves to the inner position.
