Calling all body men/painters....

So I was asked by a family friend to paint his 71' volvo gun metal blue(like Dallas Cowboys away pant colors) the car is pretty straight needs a new rear panel replaced, new lower quarters, and a little core support work. The body needs to be stripped, primed, painted.... What I'm wondering is what # should I throw at him, without giving him a heart attack.  He got a quote of 10,000 and he was blown away so I need to be quite a bit lower with still making decent money. It's been a long time since I've been in the business (10yrs lol) So what do u guys think? Also the car is stripped no windows, engine, interior and all trim

How long do you think it is going to take, 120-140 hours? x whatever you think your "free" time is worth. Plus $1500-2000 for parts and  paint and materials. Just a guesstimate, but if the shop he got the quote from is getting somewhere in the neighborhood of $50-60/hour they are thinking around a 130 hour job + materials.

I would say your looking at 3 full weeks of work, at least plus materials.. really depends what the car looks like, and the quality he's looking for in my opinion….

your looking at about 10 grand if I was going to do it…. and I'm not a pro bodyman
