A/C going on and off!!!!!

My a/c is acting wierd. if i am at a stop it blows out cold air with no problems, but when i push the gas to start acceleraring, the air quits coming out of the vents, i can still hear the blower motor running but no air is coming out. once i reach my cruising speed and let off the gas, it takes a few moments and then the air starts coming out of the vents again. it really sucks in stop and go driving because its NOT blowing air more than blowing and it gets hot as #$(@ in my car  :flame:
Please help
thanks

when it quits coming out the vents does it come out the defrost?  could be vacuum related either leak or bad servo.

a few more details might help like standard a/c  or ETAC

I'd guess a vacuum issue as well - when you step on the gas there is less manifold vacuum, which when combined with a leak or a weak actuator may not be enough to hold the flap inside your heater box in position. When this happens the system will default to "defog"

umm not sure sure if it comes out the defrost or not, i never checked, i'll take the car out tomorrow and see if it does.
what do you mean by ETAC??
so if it does come out the defrost, then that means i have a vacumn leak?? would should i start at to look for the leak? were is the acuator at?
sorry for all the questions,
thanks again

i would start first off by checking the three way proportion valve which is mangled and fanagled up near the pass side engine bay near the heater core hoses and the ac round can thing a ma bob.
it will be a small black three way device with very tiny black vac lines going to it.  one goes inside the pass fender, one goes to the vac distribution and the other dissappears into the hvac sysem inside the ac core grommet.

your interior vac lines are very very flexable and one could be slightly pinched off especially if you have been in there doing radio work ect.
up above the gas pedal there is a silver vac actuator that flips the air like that when at wide open throttle or passing gear. check that to see if its sticking.  if it is, try to spary some wd40 on the top of it to lube up the actuator rod.

ETAC is the electronic temp control where you dial in a set temp.  As opposed to the
standard controls are just the 2 slide levers.  The vacuum system actuators etc is differnt between the 2 systems.  In addition to what Scott says to check you will see alot of the HVAC stuff  vac lines & actuators behind the glove box

yea mine is the ETAC. i took my car out today, turned on the a/c, accelerated, waited til the air quit coming out of the vents and felt up on the defrost, and sure enough it was coming out up there and on the floor vents.

is the three way proportional valve inside the engine compartment then? what am i suppose to be looking for on it? make sure all the vac lines are plugged? i have had to take my cd player out numerous times so i will pull that out tomorrow and see if any lines got pinched behind that. i will also check on the silver vac actuator and the lines behind the glove box tomorrow and let you guys know what i see. thanks

WOOHOO!!!!!!! I found were the leak was and it not only fixed my a/c problem but it also fixed another little problem i was having.

I first checked the 3 way valve thingy under the hood and all the vac lines looked good on it, except for the power wires going to it looked a little corroded so i cleaned them and plugged it back in. I then followed all the vac lines around under the hood and made sure they were all pluged in and looked good, which they all did. Then i found the silver thing above the steering wheel and it appeared to be working fine but i went ahead and sprayed wd-40 just to be safe. I then flopped my glove box down, pulled the sides in so it went completely down and i couldn't believe it but right there in front of me there was a vac line not attached to anything!! Plugged it in the silver circle thing that was right beside it, took her for a test drive and now my a/c is working perfect and contuously comes out the vents!!!!  :rollin:
I've had this car for about 4 1/2 years now and ever since i bought it my a/c has been doing what we've been disussing and also when i had the blower motor turned off there was a hissing sound that sounded like is was coming from behind the buttons but would go away when you turned the blower motor on. that bugged me for 4 1/2 freakin years becuase of that stupid vac line and now it stopped, never would have guessed it would have been something stupid like that doing it.
Thanks again for all your help everyone, its greatly appreciated!!!
