any ideas ?

i have a 87 cougar , has a 85 gt roller motor, heads have had larger valves installed and some porting(dont know exact work on heads ,were free, had a bent valve-long story)  cam came with heads dont know exact grind , but was told it was like x303 1.6 roller rockers, mass air flow for 30lbs injectors,(bbk)bbk intake (upper/lower)70 mm throttle body,30 psi injectors, processor is from 93 cobra ,tfi module has been replaced, pick up coil(in dist)coil and new high performance ford wires(8mm)  my issue is it some what runs under heavy throttle but runs very rich to the point of fuel fouling plugs , i have been told its the processor , its the cam ect --what would be a good processor or cam?:rollin:

What transmission? An X303 (if there is such a thing? I was only aware of the B, E and F cams) does NOT like an auto trans, but of course, running rich ain't got squat to do with that anyway...

Of course, it could be those 30 psi injectors....you need to exchange them for some 24 lb/hour injectors....that's what the Cobra 5.0 engines had.

the processor tells the injectors when to spray ,and in what order, this cam uses HO(13726548) firing order, the cobra processor also correct? i was also told that cobra processor would not work with a mass air other than a cobra mass air , is this true , that would cause a rich condition.

If you are using the actual Cobra processor, you also need to use the Cobra specific maf sensor and the matching fuel injectors(yes it is true). FRPP made a X303 cam it was one of the higher end alphabet cams. You could always benefit from a tune, but if you match everything up together it will atleast get you going.

The fellers are correct on the Cobra EEC, injectors and MAF. Maf has to be calibrated for injectors being used, regardless of what vehicle they're in.

But to get you in the ball park, things need to be on the same page.

Dump the Cobra processor (post it for sale on the Mustang forums) and find a 9AL (originally came in the standard trans cars) or 9AP (originally came in the auto trans cars) processor and get an MAF (http://www.promracing.com/mass-air-meters.html) that is calibrated for your 30 lb/hr injectors if you do not want to get a tune right away.  If you are going to get a tune now and one later when you put the turbos in then then I would suggest a Lightning 90mm MAF or one from SCT (http://www.sctflash.com/showsctproducts.php?Prod=BA).

This is are really good read on EEC's and their wiring on the Corral:

I have a A9L with a MAF calibrated to 24lb injectors and my car still runs rich. But I am running a 351w now so I know it needs a tune bad.

Ditch the C&L and get a better MAF. If anything you should be lean with the 24's on a mild 351.
