New work bench

I've been wanting a work bench for a little while, so a couple days ago I got some supplies and built one, as well as hung a couple lights overhead.

It's still a work in action, but this is basically the finished animal.

I decided to have it a little less "deep" in place of a longer L shape, and that will allow me more area while taking up less space, as I have a lot of stuff sitting around that I need to put up on shelves (yet to be built).
I've still got to put in the posts on the far side, these will be 2x4s cut with angles and screwed into the 6x6 posts on the shed, so I can fit larger, bulkier things under that section of the bench. The thing wrapped in plastic is a 5.0 shortblock...it's the 50 dollar engine that had coolant in cyls 2 and 6. I've also got another 5.0 shortblock that has new main and rod bushings...the guy that "rebuilt" it can't remember what cam it has, but he said the engine was originally from a 91 Mustang, and put the cam back in that came out, so it's possibly an HO.

Also, for gratuity, here's my front porch that I built last week. I think I like building things better than working on cars. For real.

NICE i love working on projects like that. Also the wood bench is nice to find little parts when working on things. The light color of the wood makes it easy to spot parts. I love to work with wood like that. Did you cut those stringers from scratch?? I always mess up cutting stringers. It takes me 2 hours to lay them out and they are always wrong!!! But if i got paid by the job i would go broke. It takes me 10 times to fit a piece of molding. My friend is a carpenter and he always makes fun of me when i do moldings and stuff like that. He never laughs at me when his truck needs plugs. You know the ONES !!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY BREAK OFF IN THE ENGINE !!!!! Very Nice!

Is that BARN YOURS in the back round???? I love barns they are one thing i wish i had. My town does not allow them in my area. SWEET to say the lease. DAM THAT IS A GREAT BARN I LOVE IT!!!

Yeah, I cut everything from scratch, nothing more than a skilsaw to cut, and measuring 3 times. Used a nice straight level to make my marks. I was surprised how well the porch turned out. It's identical to the old one in dimension though...that may have helped

No round barns here, but my neighbor has one, they refurbed it a year or so ago, new roof, paint, door, etc. It should last another 120 years or so. My old barn is in rough shape. Needs some wood, paint, and a few windows. It's probably close to 130 years old.

The round thing out back is a silo...there are 2 of 'em. They need to come down..maybe this winter I'll see if I can find a way to make them collapse without getting killed. There once was a 2 story barn out beyond the silos, but my grandfather and his brother used dynamite to knock the top floor off and then put a roof on it to make a single story shed. It's still standing..I use it for a wood shed now. Has a rough concrete floor. We used to castrate bull calves there, years ago. Had my share of cutting calf nuts off.

Times change, but I miss my grandparents. I'd give all I have, everything I've done, if only to see them for a little while, and to let them see my kids. I hope they're happy about the work I've done and am doing to their farm. They bought this place in 1957, my dad was my son's age now when they moved here. I just finished the metal roof on the house, which was built in 1979/'80, next step is some new siding, then I'm going to replace the back deck with something bigger. It's just a touch over 7', I'll probably go to a 12' width on the new job. My basp00get walls are all cracking, I'm talking to my dad to see if he'll help me out, get a crew in here to either s them up, or worst case, jack the house up and put in new basp00get walls. $$ there...I sure as hell ain't got that. Not sure if he'd that or not. There's 2 large cracks in the ceiling from the house settling...something needs done or shiznit's gonna get bad here in a couple of years.

It's a pretty neat old barn, my g-parents milked cows in it for some years..before I was born though.
