3m Paint Defender

i am in a mad rush to find this stuff and test.

now i need a car paint job good enough to test it on!!!!
i may try it on the 20th!!!!!!!!

i am really excited about this majic stuff in a bottle
just saw the commercial,, im sold, hook line and sinker!!!!!!!

ok,,
you spray it on your car
it **LAMINATES *** your car!

it also peels off like stretchy plastic heat shrink or whatever..

Is this basically a clear vinyl-like film? I think of Plasti-Dip as going for a spray version of vinyl, and I'd think this thing is a spray version of clear vinyls/films. Places that tint windows often times offer clear film installation also for the front of a vehicle. It seems to all be good for 5+ years outdoors.

Plasti-dip is actually available in clear, but it leaves a low gloss look when applied to an automotive finish. It also only holds up for a couple months. One of my friends used it to protect the lower bumper on his lexus. I'm guessing the 3M stuff is a lot better. 3M products seem to have an extremely high level of quality from what I have seen.

I guess this depends where and how you spray it. On my daily driver, the factory rubberized paint starts to come off around the window and people just chip it off, sand the aluminum, and re-spray it with plasti-dip. It seems to hold up fine for years on the side of the vehicles.

will try it on my headlamp lenses in the next few days,,
seems the 60,000 psi car blasting washers out there negatively effect my prudy polyurethane coated lenses.

Let us know how this works. I spent three hours polishing out bug splatter on the front bumper of the Mustang after a trip to Cleveland and back. I even polished/waxed the thing before we left and the bug splatter was still a pain to get out of the paint. Ohio must have some strong bugs.

this stuff has ben around a while but you used to have it professionally sprayed and it cost a lot .........I guess they found a way to keep it cheap and friendly

I didn't know you were that close to Cleveland. The last trip three weeks ago was a run and gun trip. We were in Cleveland for a friend's graduation from Med school (for anesthesiology). We drove out Friday night, spent Saturday with her and another friend, went to the graduation Sunday morning, and then went back home Sunday afternoon. Both me and my girlfriend had to go to work Monday morning.

The bug splatter was brutal. It left marks in the paint on the bumper that took hours of my time to buff out. I guess that's what happens when you hit bugs at 80mph. The troopers left us alone on the Ohio Turnpike at that speed.

this time of the year, its real bad for bugs up in oh, i agree , i still have marks on my coug from a swarm of something at night that made me wish for a swarm of bats to clean up the air.

finally got around to trying out the product.

totally satisfied thus far and it works as claimed as advertised!!! very odd stuff to work with.

spray on surface and it turns milky white, it is about as thin as water.
watch over it for the next two hours and it will become clear as glass.

i played around with this product on a piece of plastic and let it try. It peeled off not really easy and it stretched like rubber as i pulled at it.

now to test this out.

looking for failure on the product for the following reasons.....
-headlamps on and generating too much heat
-constant impact into the air, dust, bugs ect.

once the product fails i will let everyone know.

gotta start off with a good clear lense though,, and wax it!!!!!!!!! wax the lense,, !!!!!!!!!,, oh did i say you must WAX THE LENSE?

ask me how i know.

So are you waxing the lights before application?
Btw when you say polyurethane coated lenses, did you use the poly and mineral spirits method?

What areas did you use this stuff on?
