85 T-bird anniversary edition barn find March 17, 2013, 03:04:38 PM My BIL just picked this one up this morning and saved it from the crusher. It has been sitting in a barn for the past 10 years. The car did not run when he brought it home, but had it running 25 minutes after he brought it home.he said it had some type of after market security system on it , so he removed it ,plugged everything back in and it fired rite up.The car is very solid but in need of new paint.we will post progress pics as he preps for nnew paint...................not bad for $400.00 !!!! barn find Reply #2 – March 17, 2013, 03:59:11 PM I am joes brother in law and as he posted above, I rescued another t bird. Now I have the tough choice on which one gets to stay... The 84 elan is very clean but has suspension, brake and some minor mechanical issues but zero rust. The 85 has lots of surface rust and some mechanical problems obviously because it sat for so long. What would you guys do? Quote Selected

85 T-bird anniversary edition barn find Reply #7 – March 18, 2013, 02:51:31 PM just to give a different point of view......the 85 is certainly more rare and desirable as a collector car, but the anny edition specific parts will be very hard to come by. Its that way for all of these cars. The 84 while needing more mechanically seems much more complete and less to restore........just a thought...Nice find! Quote Selected

If you can only save one save the car that has the best "soft" parts. Those are the hard to find items.Nice score btw. I do like the 84. Looks clean. Quote Selected
85 T-bird anniversary edition barn find Reply #12 – March 20, 2013, 06:04:11 PM I will probrably end up keeping both. The 85 anny is about 5000 dollars away from being a 2000 dollar car,but a keeper none the less. I can always put it away and slowly pick away at it. The 84 Elan is a texas car and doesnt really need much,I had to save that one from a guy that was going to butcher it(pro stock hood scoop, side pipes and air shocks was his plan). Only after I discovered this site I realized how little these cars seem to bring, and I paid too much for the Elan with 56k on the odometer (1700 roughly) I thought I got a deal and thought it was worth more!!! No big deal, I have always liked these cars and value doesnt really matter. Who knows they may be valuable in the future seeing as they are basically extinct around here, I only see the occasional beater..... Quote Selected
