Black Magic Capri $900? Is it worth it?

I got a guy in Vancouver his name is Shane, and he has had this 81 Black Magic capri for a couple years for sale. It is a non matching 5.0 from a 79 mustang. Needs brake lines and master cylinder to run, interior carpet and headliner is shot. T-top car. Missing original wheels. Needs paint. I got em down to $900 if I come tow the car away.

Just wondering on the rarity of the car and would a non matching engine affect the status of the car? My buddy had a crimson cat before I never seen a black magic in person before, are they more rare?

the bubble back window was from 83 or 84 and up. before that they were same as a mustang.

The non-matching-numbers engine will surely hurt the value... when the car's actually valuable, say in 10-20 years for that car owing to the fact that even if all original it would have had a 130 horsepower engine. If the body is in good shape, and being a Vancouver car it probably is, that car would make a very nice restomod project. If it were local I'd hit it, but I love T-tops. I've actually been looking for a T-Top Mustang, Capri, C3 Corvette or 77-81 Firebird.

And here's what I'd do to that Capri, to make it into a nice retro summer cruiser:

Drop in a mildly built, fuel-injected 302-based engine pushing 300-350 horses, backed up by a T5. Swap an SN95 suspension in, including a disc brake 8.8" rear. Some nice weld-in subframe connectors and a strut tower brace to help put some stiffness back into the chassis that the T-tops took out. The interior would receive a full restoration including new rubbers for the windows & T-tops (nice thing about Mustangs and their Capri brothers, everything's available). Maybe even update the interior to a nice tan leather with black accents and piping to offset the black exterior/gold stripe combo. Cat heads (black) embroidered into the seats would be a nice touch as well. The exterior would receive a stock-appearing redo, including new stripes & decals. I'd also try to find a bubble back hatch - call me weird, I've always liked 'em. Lighting would be some tasteful aftermarket LED tail lights and true HID projector lights up front that retain the stock 4-eye look.

Now you've got me really wanting that car...
