My employer just got broken into again, not 15 minutes after myself and sis in law closed up for the night. In a world like this, innocent people need to carry some caliber of safety and defense tool.

I wish these chickenshiznit motherf)*(&ers would come in there and try a holdup while we're open.

They kicked the door in, grabbed some stuff off of the counter and ran out. Thank god we have a protocol I wrote up awhile back about what we do before and during close.

We have video surveillance, heading out now to retrieve it from the system and make yet another dvd for County LE. Looks like I'll be pulling an all-nighter, guard duty.
Mr. Walther, care of Mr. SMith and Mr. Wesson, assisted by Old Man Winchester and my pit bull will be on duty tonight. FML.

Yep, wastes of life for sure. We stay ready for those type's of people around here. I have my CCW, have since I was 23, and I carry a Glock .40 on me at all times. Have a very mean AR-15 and a SKS protecting the house. My ol' lady also keeps my S&W model 29 .44mag next to her on the nightstand when I'm gone. Stand your Ground and Castle laws are also in full effect here in NC as always. Not a good state for thieves here.

We've got the "castle doctrine" here in Missouri, but as yet no stand your ground type of allowance.

If someone merely breaks in, I can't use my firearm...it's not my building, nor MY store, I just work here. However, (and this comes from LEO's) if someone threatens me with a weapon and shows intent to use it, I can defend myself.

Do I want to? Never. Hope I never ever have to use it in a defensive manner against another human...but, I will not become a victim, either. Nobody should be in that position.

I'd love to pick up an AR, in .308, but the prices are stupid around here and most are sold as soon as they hit the shelves. I'd buy used, but even those are high as hell.

I'm going in about 2 weeks for the CCW class. I've already got the gun I'll be carrying concealed once I've had the class and gotten the endorsp00get. I've been wearing it around the house, and the rig I have is very comfortable, and is nearly impossible to spot unless I'm wearing a tight t shirt (which I hate anyway).

Once I'm home, I'll snap a pic of the cc setup. It's a Walther PPS in .40S&W, and my main carry tool (open carry) is a also a Walther, but it's a PPQ, also chambered in .40
The recoil with the PPQ is very manageable, the PPS has a little more buck to it, but it is a smaller lighter piece, very similar to a Glock 27 in size and weight. Rides very nice in the waistband thoughand even for a skinny little like me it's very well unnoticeable. Hell, it's barely an inch wide!

Excellent. We would have a much safer society here, if there where only more good people with CCW's around carrying. I know I'm more than willing to risk my life to stop a psycho from hurting innocent people. Criminals would be forced to think twice before attacking Joe Schmoe out there, if they thought he might be armed and willing to use it. People tend to act a little better overall when they know there can be harsh consequences for their actions.

Exactly. There was a minor confrontation between a couple of customers a bit ago, one guy followed two other fellas into the store, verbally harassing them, saying he was going to tear them up, kick their asses, etc. I told him to cool it and to go back to his car. He started for the counter, talking smack to me, so I backed away from the counter and unfastened the strap that hold my safety tool in place. He turned red in the face, turned around and walked out without any other response. Whew. I almost needed a chair after that..made me a little shaky.

His buddy was in here, the look on his face was priceless. He asked the million dollar question: would I have used it if he didn't stop? I said that I didnt want to think about it, because at that point my reaction was about all instinctive.

oddly enough,, to all the liberal weak men leading this country including hollywood,,,

the gun laws are written in such a way that they require you to use nothing other than a gun for protection. conceal to carry only applies to guns.

god forbid you get "half arrested" like i did in the communist state of ohio when an officer asked me if i had any weapons in my car and it told him yes, i had a knife in my door. I hate stupid laws, most places i have to move about be it cleveland at 3am or chicago at 4am or 3pm, ect,, I cant use my knife even with a conceal to carry. I must use a gun.... Poor ole me rated 5 cop cars and all the while im just out working...but they seem to find it odd that i am the only car in the little town from "out of state" so that was the reason they pulled me over. I honestly considering taking them to court , they cost my company 36, 250.00 in the 49minutes of downtime of E911 serivces as well as total population outtage of television and internet with local and commercial accounts.

the shager scratched the trunk lid of my coug with my skinning knife as well as they handled it with no care or concern for the knife or my car.

its gonna be an eventful year and next four while more "stupid rules".,,, not like i didnt predict this happening.

by te way, your the criminal for not being understanding of this less fortunate person who "if only we had been more opened up to" maybe he would have ~~stole less,,

I don't want this to turn into a political thread, I think 99% of us here are on the same page anyway, so no need to get us locked down here :)

I don't see an issue carrying a knife as a defense tool except that A, it requires you to be within arm's reach of the BG, and B, if they've got a gun, you're probably already hurting at that distance. One of the main things is to be alert to your surroundings and people near you. Someone comes at me yelling, screaming, or digging in their clothing for a potential weapon, I am going to unfasten the thumb break and put my hand on my safety tool. It's no paranoia, but just simply giving as little chance as possible to be a victim.
Even as I sit here in my sleeping clothes, I've got my carry gun next to me. Do I antite trouble here at home? No, but it's a habit I've fallen into, and I'm not going to give it up. If you have to reach further than arm's reach for safety, that's too ed far.

This was taught to me, and it's the world we live in that makes me feel this way. Not to mention interrupting a burglary at my employment after hours one night, I went back for some tylenol about half an hour after we'd closed, so I didn't have to drive 12 miles to town to buy some....there was some money on the floor, and the kitchen door was slightly open and unlocked. After reviewing the security, we saw the thief go out the kitchen AFTER my wife and I were inside the building. This is all clearly on camera.

At the time, I was unarmed. Not anymore.

I love this place, and a lot of you guys I've "known" for years. I would hate to be a poster in a memorial thread due to some scumbag doing harm to any member here...or their family or loved ones.

On the other hand, if you don't like guns, don't want them around, or are scared of them, I understand. I urge those folks to take a few gun courses, even if you never plan to use one, even for target shooting, it's a good idea to know how to handle one should you find one laying around and it needs to be checked and secured, etc.

I carry a tanto bladed Kabar in my car as well, pretty sure it's the same deal as carrying a gun, in that you are required to tell the officer who just pulled you over that you have a weapon in the car. As long as you tell him before he asks you, like right as soon as he walks up, he can't charge you with anything. If he asks you first and then you tell him, you can be charged regardless, depending on if he wants to be a prick that day or not.

the point i was trying to bring up is that a knife is not covered under a conceal to carry,,, in all states i have looked up

I have my Wva rules in front of me, they do not explain ones rights to carry a "knife" as a qualifier for conceal to carry.

Here in missouri, in regards to a knife being concealed...as in a pocket knife, for example, it's not an issue. In simple english, you can have a pocket knife in your pocket, no worries, no trouble.
The legal aspect comes into play if the knife exceeds a certain amount of issues (and I can not remember that legal length offhand) and at that point, regardless of a CCW endorsp00get or not, it can NOT be concealed in your car, or on your person, for any reason, at anytime, except if you are hunting, in regards to being concealed on your person.

The difference in Missouri is that you CAN carry a gun concealed IN YOUR CAR WITHOUT a CCW endorsp00get, provided that YOU own the gun, and are legally allowed to own the firearm. (As in not having a felony record or a charge of domestic assault, etc)

I was stopped about a week ago, I of course had my main carry pistol in the console, in it's holster, secured, when I was stopped. The deputy asked if I had any guns, blah blah. I answered truthfully, he asked to see it, to which I opened the console and did not touch the gun. Funny that he asked if I had the ccw endorsp00get AFTER he'd looked at my operator's license (in missouri it's stamped in the top right corner "CCW endorsee until XX-XX-XXXX")
I mentioned that I knew the law stated I could have it concealed in my vehicle or in my home without being required to have the endorsp00get. I think he may not have been aware, as he acted surprised that I knew.

I don't go out of my way to bring up the subject, but if an LEO asks, it's always best to be honest and only answer a question with a direct, straight answer.

The wrong way:
Officer: "Sir, do you have any weapons, drugs, or illegal substances in your vehicle?"
subject: "officer, I have one handgun in my console, and nothing illegal."
officer: "sir, may I take a look through your vehicle?"
suspect "yes, I have nothing to hide."

The correct way:
Officer: "Sir, do you have any weapons, drugs, or illegal substances in your vehicle?"
subject: "officer, I have one handgun in my console."
officer: "sir, may I take a look through your vehicle?"
suspect "no."

Don't volunteer anything, answer in yes or no answers unless otherwise required, and always stay calm, respectful, and tell the truth. Always tell the truth. Always.
Just don't volunteer anything that doesn't answer the immediate question.

Disclaimer: some states may be different, but in MO, you do NOT have to consent to search unless there is probable cause. If you've got a meth lab in the back of your truck, you're going to get searched despite your objections.
If the cop strolls up and smells something burning that obviously ain't tire smoke, engine exhaust, or your momma's pall malls, you're going to get searched.
Same with beer, whiskey...i think you get my drift here lol.

It also helps to keep your shiznit clean, and not cluttered up like a slob. I've been stopped a whole lot of times, mostly for speeding, and have only ever been searched twice. I've only ever been arrested one time, and that was sure as hell not for anything vehicle related.

In my instance though, I rolled through a stop sign at 1Am and the LEO was sitting in the dark, watching. I'll make no excuses, he caught me, but let me off with a warning when I was upfront about my handgun and he saw I was sober. (no doubt he was thinking I was intoxicated, as there is a bar just a mile up the road in the direction I'd came from).

I've got my CCW and (I hope) a decent amount of home-defense firepower, but all these break-ins are making me think it's time to up the cruelty-factor. I wonder what the losers would do if 60 seconds after they tripped a store alarm bundles of razor-wire started falling from the ceiling. Or if the homeowner hit a switch in his bedroom that caused nails to start sticking up through the carpet. NVA used to do some *really* cruel tricks with wooden ankle-traps, but that might be hard to implement without catching the mailman, the small child, or the neighbor's cat.
