Lincoln hints at a version of the Mustang

Could it be a Cougar?  Mark IX?

Also did you guys see Kevin Morgan's verison of the Cougar?

I've always thought it should have a touch of the 80's so here's my version with the rear side window tweaked.

Wasn't the Lincoln LS based on a modified SN-95 chassis?

this comment hit home for me, and it is high time that different starts looking and feeling just that.............

4. Understand that there is NO market for an "upmarket" Mustang re-badged as a Lincoln. Different demographic groups, expectations of the car, and buyers who buy based on performance and price. This is not Lincoln's target demographic. (It would also compete unnecessarily with the Mustang, raise costs per vehicle, and NOT increase sales throughout the Ford/Lincoln corporation)

There is absolutly no other car on the road that looks even close to the fox birds or cougs, even during thier ear of the 80's they stood out unlike anything else.

today,, its really hard to separate the lines on the cars running the roads to "at a glance know" what car that was.

We need an "at a glance" car today and the mustang has always measured up even if soem of us didnt really agree with the final product.  The charger did well also for the glance test.

linc needs a glance test car that clearly says what it is,,, hell even the prius passes the glance test.............
VW is doing a decent job of manipulating the glance test......
My wifes ghia on the other hand certainly passes the glance test but 99% of people who look at it smile because its so different,, nothing like it.

Its my belief that the auto makers lost thier way thinking revenue too often and while the dollar drove the P&L.  The first impression is a lasting one and to this , the glance test and appeal needs satisfied for linc to survive on its own.

and yet............
Exhibit A:  imho, an epic Phale,, the "porshe cayenne"  , SUV, looks like a hyundai

FoMoCo has already dispelled the rumour that a RWD Lincoln is coming. Much as I'd like to see a 3-series sized RWD 4-door Lincoln based on the next Mustang, it ain't gonna happen...

Lincoln needs a successful version of the Lincoln ls v8.

I personally hate the fact that Ford has nothing to compete with this!

...and there was light!

Really, they let it out on December 26th and dispell the rumor within a week?  Multiple sites are reporting it.

If they bring anything back it should be a 'Hot-Rod Lincoln" and a Mark 9 would the right thing, throw that out to compete with the cts and throw on a  Continental badge and make that the 4dr edition, Although the new Mkz looks great imo, it's a rebadged Taurus.

Actually Mark VIII's were based off the MN12 chassis...I think they called the mark's chassis version FN10, although I may be wrong. There's nothing in common at all with any SN95 Mustang, save for the engine displacement at 4.6l....

Yeah the MN12 was the Cougar/Tbird of the 90's and the FN10 was extremely similar and the Mark VIII platform.

And Lincolns will always share platforms with Fords.

Matt Vanpuppies, Director, Global Lincoln tells us the brand’s future doesn’t include V-8-power or rear-drive, which would rule out the possibility of a Mustang-based Lincoln coupe or sedan.

Hmmm...I don't remember hearing that, not sure.
The S197 (current-gen Mustang) is based off the LS's DEW98 platform though.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_D2C_platform

And yes, the FN10 is the Lincoln version of the MN12 chassis. The extensive use of aluminum in suspension components is what differentiated the platforms enough for a name change, apparently.

FWIW, I think with the MK_ naming structure that Lincoln has employed for the last few years, it's awful logical to have a 2-door coupe named the MK9, don't you think?
(And yes, 9, not IX. If Lincoln wants to modernize, start with dropping the Roman numerals.)

They should have done the Continental concept from a few years ago, though. THAT would have been the perfect comeback car.
