Throttle Body

When I went to start my 1986 Cougar w/5.0 engine, it idled very low (maybe 400-500 rpm). That's when I noticed that the butterfly on my throttle body was completely shut, but the idle screw was already screwed all the way in. The tab doesn't even come close to the stop on my throttle body, it's about 1/2" off. I took the TPS sensor off but that didn't seem to help. What I need to know is if there is a way to adjust the butterfly so that the tab will touch the stop?

Does it have oily goop stopping it from moving? Does the lever at the bottom move it? Is the shaft that the butterfly is on bopken?

vinnietbird,
I took the body off and took a good look at it and my guess is that's the way it's made. It doesn't look like the tab it meant to touch the stop. The problem I was having is the spring is pretty stout and it was compressed all the way so it wouldn't go any farther. Nope, everything is clean, no problem there and it all works like it should. I just put on a smaller spring and the bolt/screw is plenty long so I might be alright now. I gotta do a tune-up next. Thanks!

hmm,, interesting, honestly wish you would have thought to get a picture of that.
cant see how this is possible on a TB.

BTW, thought factory idle spec was approx 600rpm anyway?

jcassity,
I need to get some good batteries for my camera then figure out how to post them (but I will). When I looked at it on the car, I thought for sure I had a problem. When I took it off the car, I saw no way of adjusting it.
