one of the Admins here, ThunderChicken..he had either Bullitt or Mach 1 springs on his V8 Bird...

I've got '97 GT springs on mine, I've got about an inch or slightly more of drop. I've also got struts from an SN95 V8 car, as well. Rest of mods in my sig to draw an idea from.

I think it's the Mach springs that will drop down quite a bit, to the point of probably needing a bumpsteer kit and c/c plates...

Thanx for the info buddy..So if you put 02 Gt springs on your car..Was it a direct fit? How did it drive after..Does that mean i can put H@R aftermarket springs made for a SN95 on my car..And also aftermarket Shocks/Sruts for SN95 on my Bird..Will it work as well..Sorry for all the questions..I originally came from the Rice world of performance cars..But never going back..Ford is my new love..And im not looking back...Thanx for help..

You can use the struts from an SN95, but you'll have to use your stock Tbird strut mounts (SN95 stangs have 4 bolt mounts, Fox Birds have 3) and I'd recommend using same vehicle springs springs in conjunction. Figure your shock length accordingly for the rear, as Stang shocks are too short, unless the Bird will be lowered. ChuckW also sells shock adapters to enable using Mustang shocks...they raise the bottom mounting point somewhere around an inch or so, can't remember exactly how much. With my stock Sport rear springs in place, the Fox Stang shocks were still too short even with his brackets. Once I made the spring swap, things got better, but I may toss on some SN95 length shocks to test, as my car only dropped an inch or somewhere in that area.

Right now it's on jackstands, or I'd take a pic of the stance. I live in the country on some shiznitty gravel roads, so it's not so low as to dent the oil pan.

You could always cut your coils, but if you go this way, start off with small cuts until you get it where you like. If you ass it up, can't weld a piece back on, lol.

My springs came from a '99 Stang. About an inch or so drop, perfect, still have ground clearance for speed bumps and "real" driving, but low enough that the 4x4 look is gone.

My '83 is dropped and pretty low so I ran into all kinds of strut/shock issues and here is what I found out:

1) The rear shocks on the Fox and SN95 Mustangs are identical in length.  I am running the Koni DA's for a Fox Mustang with Griggs Coilovers and ChuckW's adapters.  I had a conversation with Bruce Griggs about the rear shocks and he said he could order a Koni shock that was one inch longer but he strongly recommended that I used what they shipped as it was tuned to the car.  That is when one of the guys here directed me to Chuck's page and I ordered a set of the rear adapters.  I might add that the adapters worked like a champ, are high quality parts, and well worth the money.
2) The struts are a little different between the Fox and SN95 cars in that the SN95 units are about an inch longer.  This can pose a problem for lowered cars as the SN95 units will bottom out.  Typically the guys with the SN95 Mustangs will run the Fox struts if they lower their cars more than an inch or so.  The 87-88 Birds use a strut that is pretty much identical in length to the SN95 Mustangs or at least that is what I have been able to gather from conversations here.
3) If you lower the car more than inch I would strongly suggest that you get some caster camber plates.  Maximum Motorsports sells the ones specific to our cars.

Can a person use 99-04 gt front and rear springs and still use the 1988 xr-7 struts and shocks?

I have mach 1's on the front, bullits on the rear, personally I think machs are aX bit to soft. The front dropped about an inch. You need adjustable rear arms to raise it,mine are almost maxed out to level the car.

Here's my '88 Bird with Bullitt springs. As Kitz Cat said, you will need adjustable rear lower control arms, or the car will sit too low. Mine were adjusted to max height in this pic...

when you say you used mustang springs, like say a 1999 mustang....    are using stock springs to acheive a drop in a tbird? or are you using aftermarket mustang lowering springs?

Usually the aftermarket Mustang lowering springs are too low, too rough, and really uncomfortable. And that's in a mustang, never mind a 'Bird. Yeah, stock springs are what most of use, I've got '97 GT springs in mine, a little drop, nothing to brag about, but it suits me. ThunderChicken had Bullitt springs on his, and you can see the drop in the pic. Keep in mind, with Bullitts, you'll need adjustable LCA's in the rear, and probably C/C plates for the front. Not sure on the drop that Mach 1 springs give. I'd also avoid Fox stang springs as they are too short, too soft, and will give a rough ride.

I think it was Dan B. that said he scored a set of '98 Cobra springs...I'd love to see a pic of the stance after those are put in....
