electrical issues cause stalling

My car is a 1986 Cougar CFI with 68,000. I've encountered stalling and idiling problems. Originally thought they were associated to TFI but have identified several cracked and wiring problems. I have had some current successes with STP wire dry spray and protectant.

Can anyone recommend a heavy duty protectant that can be put on all types of automotive wires and where you can find it ?

basically what I would do is just get an evmt off of ebay or maybe someone on the boards and I would rewire it myself. It will last longer then that wire spray stuff. This is just my opinion though.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

depends on how bad the wires are.  a fast temp fix is wrap in electric tape.

a better fix for a bad few wires is cutout bad stuff then solder and use heat shrink tubing over repair

if it is real bad either follow haystacks suggestion or here is one on ebay  if it is compatible with what ya got  http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7914138298&category=46101&sspagename=WD1V

You could also use that liquid electircal tape. It does a better job than the tape and you just brush it on. I got some at Wal-Mart. The rewire would be the best but This stuff would help you make it work iuntil you could get it all together.

There is some rule in the electrical world about corrosion(sp?).  For every inch of corrosion in the wiring you get somthing like x amount of voltage drop.  Well on sensors that use voltage to relay to the computer this creates a big ass problem.

find you a can of this stuff.  its the coating that goes on motor or coil windings to insulate each wrap of wire.  Btw,, this stuff is good for electrical work such as when you add a wire nut, spray this up inside the wire nut for a moisture / corrosion barrier.

imho, you should just hit up a donor for new connectors on the effected ends and properly splice with enviromental splice kits.

HI

Do you have any suggestions or preferences between using liquid electrical tape or Red Insulating Varnish ?

Thanks.
