Spare tires

Since I have upgraded to TC rear brakes and Fox Mustang front brakes,  I never really thought about my original T-bird spare fitting over the brake calipers.  I assume that since my 14" wheels won't fit then the spare won't fit either.

I don't want to get a flat this summer during power tour and get stranded somewhere.  Does anyone know what type spare I need to look for?  Will Fox Mustang ones work?  How about one from a TC?

are you talking doughnut or fullsize spare? if doughnut, i believe they're all pretty much the same

i believe they're all relatively the same.. worst case scenario, a TC spare should do the trick, if there is a difference

I need to test fit mine.  I just assumed it was 14" just like my original wheels.

it very well may be, but the very shallow back spacing should keep it clear of the caliper

If you don't want to get stranded I would seriously look into having a full size spare! IMHO donuts are useless and there is always that chance of having a flat where there is no open tire shop or they don't have your size in stock........ That might just be me though! :D

I would agree with Shadow though, the donut is probably so shallow it will not be an issue.

I would never drive any distance on a donut, only far enough to get me to a local tire shop.  I don't want a fullsize rim/tire taking up all my trunk space.  (I assume a full size won't fit in the factory spare tire area).

I would assume you assume correct.  It is a pretty small area.

Yeah there is no way a 245/45/17 is fitting down in there!  With the luggage and tools (in case of breakdown) my uncle and I take on the trip there is no way I would have room for a full size tire and all my stuff.

I am going to test fit the donut and see if it indeed fits.  I never thought about the offset being so shallow that it would not interfere with the calipers.

Diameter wise it'll fit.....just not deep enough. But you all knew that anyway....lol

I'd really go with the full size and just carry some of the tools in the back seat or something.  You don't want to put a dummy spare on an axle with a LSD, you just don't.  And who wants to move a front tire to the back and put the dummy up front? On the side of the road, no less.  Here, put the full size outside down, and fill it with your stuff, then, put more of your stuff where the dummy would go in the quarter well.  If I'm thinking of that correctly, you may even GAIN storage space from the quarter well.
Honestly, Magazines shoot lots of pics on PT, you don't want to be the guy in the background of a shot with a dummy spare on, limping to the next town while everybody else blasts down the highway without you.  And that's another thing, Who wants to end up limited to 50mph on Power Tour.  Put your full size (matching wheel) spare on, and look like the guy who came prepared.  You'll be known as a true road warrior when you whip out your full size.

My car has 190,xxx miles on it.  All of which were driven with the donut in the trunk and not a full size.  lol.  Sorry guys but I'm not buying another full size wheel and tire just to have for power tour.

i don't blame you, i wouldn't want to either.. but i am ditching my doughnut for a semi-full size spare lol
