Squeek when I go over bumps or as I come ot stop.

Hi all - Last fall I was in AZ andcouldn;t pass up the deal on a cherry body 1988 T-bird LZ 5.0. I trailered it back to MI where I live. I haven't started playing with it yet. It is an amazing daily driver and only had 86,000 miles on it. Before I start playing with power train and fun stuff or headaches which ever you prefer I noticed that over the last few weeks before I left of Afghanistan I would hear a squeeking noise when I rode over bumps.

I am not a steering suspension guy. I mean I know how to test shocks by pushing up and down on the car to see how many times it goes up and down or how soft the suspension feels but I don;t know if it is the front struts?

I could just start chaning part but that would suck. I am pretty sure it needs two new front struts but how do i test this for sure?

It is almost like the moisture in the air in MI has affected them? In AZ there was no squeak?

Any help for a not so godo car guy? Be kind because I see after rereading th equestion it sounds kind of dumb.

It's probably your front lower ball joints. If they're original (not greaseable) and still good you can usually shut them up by using a grease gun with needle attachment and injecting some grease into the rubber boots.

Thanks I will take a look in the fall once I get back state side....I appreciat it. I was going to change the lower ball joints and tie rod ends anyway. Thats a bit less expensive. I appreciate th input. Never thought of the needle attachment. to grease. I hate the fact that most manufacturers stopped putting grease fitting onm their stuff....lifetime my ass.

Wish you could drill, tap and put a fitting in... I used to on old Mopars.
