Turning back mileage

I purchased a buttstuffog cluster and I want to switch it for my base cluster that has stopped working. Is there any way to turn back the mileage on the cluster? Thanks

There was a thread a while back about it. I searched but can't find it. I remember it mentioning there is a clip you have to break to get it open. Sort of like on the electrical meter on a house, that metal ring.

There's no clip to break, you've just got to take the pin that acts as an axle for all the little gears, and you've got to reassemble them just right or nothing will work and/or the numbers won't line up properly. It's a PITA but is doable if you've got patience. Don't look for too much instructions on how to do it, though, for legal reasons (it's illegal for you to do it, and it's illegal to tell you how to do it, not that it would prevent me from changing mine to reflect the proper mileage, which I did)

I've done every speedo I put in the Sport. The stocker, the BBK 190mph speedo, and the current Ford racing 140.

Not really that hard, but it can get aggravating. You have to GENTLY pull the speedo needle off by pulling straight up. CAREFULLY. Then remove the face plate by removing the two screws. Don't scratch the face. Then, remove the "motor" from the assembly (white box of gears). You;ll se the odometer numbers in black held in by a press to fot pin. From the right, I push the pin inwards towards the left side using a very small punch. Be VERY careful with those gears. I actually don't take them out, I just loosen the pin until I can move the numbers. When you start rotating the numbers, they will actually be slightly off (they should be rolled back just a hair), because when the gears all go in place, they will move the numbers a little. Trial and error. I've seen a couple of guys try this with their stock speedos and throw them in the trash because of the aggravation. Test fit the face plate to the "motor" to make sure everything lines up. push the pin back in place then re-assemble. Hard to describe it so you can "see" what I'm saying. next time I get a speedo, I'll do this process and take pictures. But, as i said, I'll be glad to do it for you. I did mine many times (different gauges). Everyone here knows me and knows I'll treat you right. No charge, just shipping. If you need me, PM me. I'm easy to find.

Do it the way Ferris Bueller would. It works on my 84 cluster, not sure about the newer ones. Just hook it up to a drill and have at it.
