Damage Estimate?

Getting ready to write up a police report...
The other night our (straight and undented) '94 Astro van was backed into by a ford explorer (one of the older ones with a metal exposed bumper...) at a store parking lot.

How much do you guys think a repair quote would be on this?:

Whole front bumper is shifted to the drivers side.

after working in a body shop that handles insurance quotes, i'd say about $1000-1400 or so.. unless they dig up a clean junkyard fender, spray it and try straightening your bumper situation out, without replacing parts.. then i'd say about $6-800

I have a 94 astro that ishiznit in the same spot, lol, but I bought it that way. I've had 5 astro's, and they seem to be dent magnets. My favorite was when I went to a local home improvement big-box store, and when I came out somebody let one of those giant lumber carts slam into the door and leave a nice huge dented gash... Nice on a white van...

Anyway, I would get a professional estimates from the most expensive place in town. I heard that insurance companies cannot legally insist on multiple estimates (though they will try). Just get one good high one, heh.

Then have a friend with a port-a-power or whatever yank that bumper back into position. Straighten the bumper edge yourself. The fender, meh, good luck finding a nice one in a junk yard to replace it with. I'd just try one of the ebay ones (http://www.ebay.com/itm/85-86-87-88-89-90-91-92-93-94-CHEVY-ASTRO-VAN-FENDER-RH-/180785515593?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3AAstro&vxp=mtr&hash=item2a17a80c49) - Not affiliated.

We are actually waiting to hear back from other persons insurance right now (They are asking if she will take responsibility for the collision).
Just want to get a report done, Not sure what happens if she denies... She admitted on the scene, And claimed no damage to her vehicle, But her boyfriend or whoever the male was with her was trying to talk everything down. the police chose to not come out since no one was hurt.
Police Report requires at least $700 in Damages.
Side note:
She hit us backing out of a handicap space, And she was probably in her late 20's and had no handicap stuff.
We have placards, And my Mother (Who IS Disabled) was in the passenger side (side hit)... Just sayin'

Oh, she was handicapped, alright... No offense to those that are truly disabled or challenged

That fender IS very fixable. Not much to it either. Totaled?? I wouldn't think so but we just had an Sunfire in here that was totaled because of a wiring fire right at the relay box. It would've only taken me a day to repair the harness but the insurance company said otherwise so you never know.

Youre probably looking at anywhere from 500 to 900 bux. LKQ fender for about 70-80 bux theyll probably straighten your bumper blend some paint and about "36" actual work hours.

Fixable it may be, but a new fender is cheaper than the labor to fix it. The decision to total is based on a percentage on what the car is worth. I don't think it would be totaled though, the damage appears to be way less than 50% of the value. An expensive shop would charge less than a thousand. I'm guessing 500 to 800. Large margin, but repair shops are hard to fig.

Update:
The other party took responsibility.
We had been meaning to call out a Damage Estimator, But were waiting 'till this week (Had a bad last week), And today I just opened a check and estimation papers...
It's a pretty good check at $975, BUT, Does not include a couple things:
Alternator seized up, Leaving the Vehicle un-driveable. It's noted un-driveable on the papers but does not include an alternator on the list...
There was a large chip in our windshield that turned into a crack all the way up from the bottom on the pass side, just short of the top.
As well as a 5" crack that was not there at all before the accident in the middle of the windshield
Needless to say If the estimator had actually waited for me to schedule and be present, Instead of being a stealthy ninja I never even knew was on our property, I would have pointed these out.
I can fix the alternator, But I'm concerned about the windshield~Is the estimate set in stone now or what? I've not had to deal with any of this before.
Side note: How are we supposed to get the van over to the shop to be fixed? Towing is not on the estimate...
I called the ins company but was 15mins too late of closing, heh...

Maybe I missed something... How did that little ding cause your alternator to seize?

It wasnt a little bump~it may look like it was, But, Majority of the impact was taken by our front bumper. They charged back into us HARD. Alternator is on the side hit.
It may be just be a coincidence, But, The alternator started squealing after the accident~Followed by weird voltage issues and straight up stopped working (Seems to be seized up) last week. This was stated over the phone to them when asked if the vehicle was running or not.
I talked to a rep and they said there was "No way" the alt could have been damaged...
And they would send out an estimator for the windshield.
I'm just going to go ahead replace the alternator. Our second running vehicle (Volvo) just died the other night on the road & Had to be towed.
Anyway, Need to have the van running again ASAP.

Really kind of weighing the option of having the cosmetic damage on the van fixed, Or, Using the settlement money to fix the windshield and get a new (used) vehicle.
The '83 Volvo is so far gone at this point.
