44,000 mile 87 Thunderbird Sport Reply #15 – January 03, 2012, 08:51:25 AM Quote from: thunderjet302;376836I have a theory as to why there are so many low option 3.8 cars left in good shape. My theory is that the original owners always wanted a T-bird but could never afford one. They were finally able to (barely) afford one in the 80's and so they bought a low option 3.8 car. They took care of the car and babied it and so that's why so many low option 3.8 cars are left. Those who could afford the more expensive cars drove them till they were used up. That's why it's hard to find a loaded up 5.0 car.I have to agree, that is certaintly one possibility. Most of them probably older folks, clinging onto thier ideals of what a thunderbird used to be. My thought was mostly old people bought them because they were cheap. Most 70ish year old people don't care about performance, etc. When I would get parts for my bird throguh a local dealer who was pretty good at locating nos stuff, he used to tell me everytime about a couple of TC's they had in 89 that had birthdays on the lot because they couldn't sell them. It always made me a little sad. :/ Quote Selected

44,000 mile 87 Thunderbird Sport Reply #22 – January 04, 2012, 03:19:33 PM But it sucks when your starter solinoid goes, so you starter is stuck on. 100 degrees outside, you shut off the car, pop the hood and pull the battery cable. Then while you sitting for an hour waiting for someone to bring you some tools, and a new starter solinoid, you push your car away from the gas pump, and sit upright with the door open because you can't roll down you windows, or move any part of your seat.If it was manual recline, at least you could lean the seat back. Are those interchangable?I wonder how high it's going to get.....Yes the clusters do swap. I have the same dash in my car (factory) and the tach is pretty cool, if not a bit hard to read. Each bar is 200 rpm so if the tach says 2000 rpm it could be anywhere between 1801 rpm and 2000 rpm. Quote Selected
