painting my new turbo coupe hood

I bought this from mercurycat a couple weeks ago. It was silver and had some dents. I'm not really a wiz when it comes to body work and paint but I needed the practice so i'm doing the paint myself.
After a cleaning:
The base coat was pretty shot after sitting around in my garage for 5ish years. i had to sand it after painting it to get the chunks down. lol:

First coat of clear. luckily the clear was still good and went on pretty well considering i'm using a husky spray gun from home depot.

You can see the scoops on the floor on the right side of this picture^ I painted them flat black.

When I get around to painting my TC hood, it will be body color (dark grey) with the scoops painted to match the stripe (silver).  Or I may do rally stripes like one car that is in the banner with the scoops being body color.

when I was showing the hood to some of my friends they said the scoops look like nostrils in the hood, I kinda wanted them to stand out a little more so you can see the shape of them. Hopefully it looks tasteful when I get it all together. There's still a chance i might keep my stock hood if I don't like how this one looks on my car.
I'm also hoping to fiberglass a duct from the scoops to the inlet on my supercharger. I'll know a little better how that's gonna work one the hood is in place.

When I swapped my hood I went back and forth with the scoop color also finally went with a flat black to match the trim on the rest of the car. Post some pics when its on the car as I am curious in what you are going to do with the duct work.                                                                                                    X

hey, can't knock those husky guns.. they're pretty good for basically being a 'cheap gun' in the paint world.. it's not the just the gun that makes things pretty in the end, it's the painter, his prep work and all those in-between steps..

on that note, looks pretty good to me, should look really good with the black scoops and non-TC header.. i didn't know your car was blue though. looks black in your signature until you REALLY look at it

Nice work! I had a TC hood for five years that stayed flat black the whole time. I even had it on two different cars.

Finally got around to putting this thing on the car. That white stuff on the bumper is snow. We just got 9" here in Ct.

Thanks guys. @Bob, I find painting to be a major Pain, but I have a really hard time letting other people work on my cars. Its kinda like letting someone else sleep with your wife in a way. lol

LOL on the wife buttstuffogy.. I hear you about having others do work for you,  I'm the same way.. even with my house I would rather do it myself.  I had someone do a patio in my yard,  I was thinking of doing it myself and was going to buy 4 yards of concrete and have the truck dump it in the back and just do it.  Well it would have cost me $500-600 in concrete with delivery.  I didn't do it cause I was afraid that I would not get the grade right and have a water problem and just make a mess out of the the whole thing.  So I hired someone and paid $1800 for a professional job.  Well a month later I had major cracks,  and water just collects in spots cause he didn't grade it right LOL.  He promised to come back the following month and cut out the bad sections and redo it.  After that call to him I could never catch up with the guy or get him on the phone after that.
