Which supercharger do you recomend, and why? December 14, 2011, 01:12:52 AM I have an '87 Cougar with a HO 5.0l out of a 92 Mustang...thinking about adding a supercharger system to the engine next spring. I am not looking for anything to make crazy HP. Just want a little boost....and suggestions? What brand do you recommend? Vortech? Paxton? Procharger....just want some input. Thanks!\m/ Quote Selected

Reply #1 – December 14, 2011, 01:29:12 AM whipple! i actually don't know if whipple makes anything for the old 5.0.. but procharger would be my next option.. vortech's are ok, but i hear a lot of people say bad things about them, but it's always something different.. paxton, meh.. i've heard a LOT of complaints about bearings in the paxtons lately Quote Selected

Which supercharger do you recomend, and why? Reply #4 – December 15, 2011, 10:55:23 AM KB is the only company that makes a screw charger for the SBF. I've use Vortech a lot in the past and never had an issue with them and never heard of a single issue with them. There is a reason they are the biggest name in centrifugal supercharging. They know their stuff and they make great products. Go over to the corral and you should be able to find a used kit pretty cheap. My buddy had an 03 GT with the KB and it was a monster, but it would just roast the tires with no effort. I had a 2000 GT with an S-trim Vortech and it was much better for the street IMO. It makes power progressively, so you can control it a little better. The KB will always be making boost, so that could be a positive as the power is there immediately, but it's also always there, always sipping more fuel, and like I said, it easily makes traction an issue. Centrifugals make more power the faster they spin, so while cruising around town, it's easy not to get into the boost, generally use less fuel, they are more effecient, and more readily available. If you want a torque monster, get the KB. If you want something a little tamer, but with the ability to be high strung, get a centrifugal. . . . Or you could do even better and get a turbo kit. Quote Selected

Which supercharger do you recomend, and why? Reply #6 – January 10, 2012, 12:15:31 AM I recommend this one. Although for obvious reasons I don't think you'd want it:rollin:http://moranav6racing.com/category.html?CategoryID=40....and you guys though v8 blowers were expensive.... Quote Selected
Which supercharger do you recomend, and why? Reply #7 – January 10, 2012, 02:06:57 AM That's would be pretty cheap for anew supercharger for a v-8...Just about any supercharger for a v-8 will work for a fi v-6, as long as you make the brackets fit, which really isn't hard. The only different thing would be how much higher volume of air you would get compared to a v-8. Quote Selected

Reply #9 – January 10, 2012, 10:18:33 AM http://Www.toohighpsi.comOr you can run two on a 5.8, or you can also mount the super coupe charger on brackets, and use exhaust tubing ti run the cold side. There used ti be a kit like that forever ago you could buy new. Quote Selected

Which supercharger do you recomend, and why? Reply #11 – January 10, 2012, 02:30:21 PM Here's my thoughts on a super charger. Say you buy the cheapest Vortech kit, the 6 psi S3. It's going to add, oh 75hp for about $2000. Now it will work of with the stock setup (fuel injectors, pump etc.) but really should be tuned so it's not using the FMU. You might be better off taking that $2000 and buying a good set of aftermarket aluminum heads, intake, and injectors. With that set up you'll add about 60-70 hp, have the power all the time, and you won't have to wait for the boost to build up. Plus a head and cam swap would put less stress on the bottom end than a blower would. Quote Selected
