Why my machine shop should die. May 27, 2005, 03:23:41 PM Hello gangI got the car running a couple days ago. Aftger 150 miles of flawless operation, it's already out of commision. The maching shop installed the ARP oil pump driveshaft upside down, causing the distributor to bind against the shaft and not seat fully, ruining the distributor after 150 miles. The washed-like thing on the distributor shaft (the thing above the distributor gear that apears to limit shaft play) literally bored a hole into the bottom of the aluminum dist. housing, causing the rotor to rub on the cap, and eventually push the dist. shaft high enough for the PIP to loose signal, shutting off the engine. Better yet is that my engine now has some steel and aluminum shavings in it. Since they built the engine and warranty it, they are fixing the oil pump shaft, and I'm going to make them pay for the replacement distributor. The moron running the shop didn't want to pull the engine to flip the shaft around; he wanted instead to cut down the replacement distributor so that it didn't bottom out against the improperly installed oil pump shaft! After some colorful dialogue on my part, he finally agreed to fix it right. Now I just worry about what else those dumbasses are going to screw up now that they have the WHOLE car.... As the saying goes: "If you want a job done right.....".Joe Quote Selected

I'd try and work it out with them with you pulling the motor and bringing it to them.. and having them fix it right while taking lots of $$ off the bill for the trouble..Did you pay with credit card? Maybe you can threaten a charge back.. Quote Selected

Re: Why my machine shop should die. Reply #3 – May 27, 2005, 04:41:42 PM I'm surprised to hear they warrantied it. Usually engine work and performance automotive stuff is "as-is". Glad to hear you're getting it fixed, though. Quote Selected
Re: Why my machine shop should die. Reply #4 – May 28, 2005, 12:36:17 PM where have you been?In my opinion,, you aught to just get refunded and refuse to let them turn another wrench. There's already friction there between you and the shop so what makes you think they wont cut similiar or spitfull corners when you not around? Quote Selected
