any dodge gurus here by any chance? HELP!!!!!!!!!! October 07, 2011, 09:00:46 PM besides the obvious reason of being a dodge, been having a hell of a time trying to track down 2 issues with this POS 4.7.. a small knock (not a rod and not a bent valve) and a miss with codes on cylinder 1.. 1 code is for the coil and the other is for the injector.. replaced both and no change.. found 1 of the injector wires was skinned, so i cut it off and soldered a new 1 in it's place.. small improvement.. this time around, ran a compression test on all cylinders, cylinder 1 came up a little short at 110, all others were at 125-130psi.. pulled the head off, thinking it could be a slight bend in1 of the valves.. replaced them both (the correct way, lapped and all), replaced 1 of the tensioner guides that broke the end off and she runs a LITTLE better, but still has the light knock and miss.. i'm at witts end and about to freak out.. i hate this OHC trash Quote Selected
any dodge gurus here by any chance? HELP!!!!!!!!!! Reply #1 – October 25, 2011, 07:37:16 PM I've spent several years working in Chrysler dealerships. Never had many problems with the 4.7s. You have looked at most everything that can be looked at. My suggestion is to check the voltage output on both injector harness and coil harness. Any problems there and you would have another break in a wire, or PCM issue. Did the cam and rockers look ok? Could there be a problem with the lifter thingy ( I know its not a technical term, but I know they don't call them lifters)? They may be called cam followers. Quote Selected
any dodge gurus here by any chance? HELP!!!!!!!!!! Reply #2 – October 25, 2011, 07:48:20 PM beats me.. we threw some CD2 in it with a bottle of marvel mystery oil and it slowly went partcially away.. so i believe it was sludge buildup clogging an oil passage.. not my problem anymore though.. the truck was traded for an 05 yamaha R6 lol Quote Selected
any dodge gurus here by any chance? HELP!!!!!!!!!! Reply #3 – October 25, 2011, 07:49:09 PM Your compression numbers seem a little low. Also having a 20psi discrepancy from one cylinder to the next is on the borderline of what will run smooth. Quote Selected

Reply #5 – October 25, 2011, 07:53:50 PM i'm not a dodge guy and never will be.. i tried talking my buddy out of trading his swapped honda (hate those things too) for it, but he was trying to play the role of family man.. it backfired and bit him in the butt when he got this pos.. at least it's gone and out of my hair lol the compression numbers were a little more even once we did the valves though.. cylinder 1 came up 10psi to 120 Quote Selected

any dodge gurus here by any chance? HELP!!!!!!!!!! Reply #7 – October 25, 2011, 08:37:56 PM Not into bikes, but that's sharp! I agree the compression numbers sounded scary, but I was trying to ignore them as you probably were to. Sludge build up could have been causing the knock, or could have been causing the cam follower to not function correctly. They are a little different than the regular old lifters we all know and love. Glad you got rid of it. This site is making me clean out the cob webs out of my brain! It's been almost 5 years since I done this professionally. Possibly next time I can catch your thread before its old news. Quote Selected
