custom header panels?

with all the mods and homemade stuff everyone has , does anyone have any homemade or highly altered grilles, and or header panels? i have started making some "changes" to a plane jane header panel as soon as i get the rest of my parts ill try to post some pics if i can get the cam to work ! when this is finished i want it to be unique, i dont want to copy someone else, just know what has been done so this is very different...... :welder:...... yeah thats right the welder has been involved , my favorite tool i could use that for anything!

well not exactly, ill try to explain as my digital cam is fubar at the moment- if you remove the chrome frome the plane jane version panel (87) it is very open other than the center support. i made one piece (steel cut and welded to get the right angles and support) on each side aprox. 1.5" wide that runs down the edge of the inner marker light and curves to the center. then (kinda) blended the seam top and bottom with fiberglass , my body work sucks! top came out mint , bottom needs finishing touches. i have ordered the cobra emblem for a stang that i plan to mount on the center support after some tpuppies and re-shaping of the support.......... but it still needs much more just havent decided what yet. right now it is starting to look very simmilar to the late 90's stang grille design.

im gonna try to get a new cam this weekend so i can get some pics that will help, untill then thats as good as i can do , sorry!

Sounds similar to my *possible* plans for my '88's nose.

I whipped up a crude illustration from an old discussion I had with someone here.. might've been Crystal I got some of the idea from.. anyway, the red lines are where I would remove the center sections.. (and smooth out the cuts to blend in with what's left) and it would just be the outside frame and hollowed out in the middle. Then where the yellow line is, I considered filling that in with Bondo or something and removing the seam.

EDIT: Oh yeah.. and like my plans for the '86's grille, I'll probably line the back of the enlarged hole in the grille with some sort of black-painted wire mesh.. I'm thinking something like hardware cloth.. the half-inch-square cloth has just about the right size mesh pattern and wire thickness I'm looking for. May turn it 45 degrees to get a square-diamond-shaped pattern. (unlike those elongated diamond patterns on that one type of mesh)

There's a guy here on the forum.. RDOG, I think his name is.. that makes or will be making these grille frames for modification. I might just pay him to make the outer ring and save this grille from mutilation. Unlike my '86's grille, this one isn't cracking or anything.. and I rather like how the paint came out.
