Bad Smell

Bad Smell

I dont know exactly what forum to post this in, so here it goes. The other day with my air on I started to smell a really bad, almost like dead fish smell. I shut my air off, and it started to go away withthe windows down.

Now i have to drive with my windows down all of the time, this smell is takin gover my car. If i look under the hood, the vents (by the front windshield) have that smell realllly bad.

Im not sure what to do, seem slike something crawled in myair vents and died, but i dont know how to get rid of it. Any help is verry apreciated,as its getting hard not to puke lol.

It all depends on what it is. If it is mold, I think you can have some foam sprayed into the vents that is supposed to get rid of the smell. If worse comes to worse, yank all your vents and lines and clean them all by hand.

i wonder if pouring bleach down it, then rinsing with water, and repeatign would help.

I stole this from a website once. I don't remember where, but it's in my master how-to encyclopedia I've been compiliing. Hope this works for ya.

Go to your local supermarket, WalMart, etc, and purchase one can of Lysol (your choice of scents - I prefer the Fresh Linen scent). Next, start the car and turn on your A/C to the highest fan setting. Now start spraying the Lysol into the intake outside the car. Once you have applied 3/4 of the can or so (depending on what size can you purchased), turn it off of A/C to the vent and spray in a little just to cover everything. When the can is empty or your finger gets tired of spraying, let the car run the vent for 3-4 more minutes (or a couple times driving around the block) and then you're done. The Lysol not only works as an air freshener, but also contains anti-fungal properties that kill the offending fungus.

Does the level of stinkitude change with the temp lever at full cold vs full hot? That can help tell if it's mold on the A/C evaporator or a before-everything source. Maybe there was a rat living on top of the fender liner (like I had) and he died?

Forget the hot/cold thing. I forgot all the air goes through the evaporator first, then is routed through/around the heater core.
