When it rains, It pours. But when it's really bad.... May 21, 2005, 10:11:39 PM ...It's like the biggest sh*tstorm you could ever imagine. So i'm headed home from work this evening and decided to swing by Summit Racing, since it was on the way home, to pick up some parts i've been needing for a lil' while. Well I had been running on the highway for a couple minutes, got off at the exit, pulled into the lot and went inside. I was only in there for maybe 20 minutes at most, but I get what I need and head out to my car. From a distance I see a wonderful trail of some liquid coming from under my car. My heart more or less dropped. I hoped that it was from a previous car but no such luck, a nice stream of radiator fluid flowing at a nice clip away from the car. I hoped it might have been a hose that "may" have poped loose but when I looked under the car I noticed the ever tell tale sign of water dripping out of the weephole of the water pump. :shoothead So needless to say, it's looking like i'm gonna have to change out the water pump, and per the norm, I have questions.1) Is there another possibilty as to why that weephole was draining so bad? Like maybe bad thermostat, bad radiator cap, etc. etc.?2) Is a high flow pump a bad idea for an SO 5.0?3) If yes for #2 what would be a good brand/performance piece to pick up?4) Is the stock rotation clockwise or counter clockwise?5) I figure i'll get a new thermostat while i'm at it and i'm consider a 195* summit, mr gasket, or be-cool branded high flow peice, good idea or stay stock from napa?6) Exactly how hard is it to do this and how long am I in for (as i'm not up for a 6 day ordeal like with the oil pan). Reply #2 – May 23, 2005, 09:03:15 AM you wanna know what me off about wheep holes in water pumps?the thing will still pump but water leaks by this pos seal thats on the inner of the shaft. jbweld the hole off till you get time to do this. I was stuck in pittsburgh pa on seventh and 7th street (what a street name eh?) at a verizon office when it happend to me last. lucky for me i had these self tapping 1/8'' phillups head screws in my parts box. I pulled the pully off, added silicone to the treads, ran the screw in,,let it dry and called it good. 450 miles later to get home and it worked out so nice, i was able to put off the job till i had the time.
