Throttle body question.....

For those with experience....I now have a 70mm throttle body on the Sport with the Trick Flow Street heat intake. Is the 70mm t-body too big? I've had a 65 with the GT-40. Engine combo as follows...

GT40-P engine
TFS-1 cam
Ported heads with Trick Flow springs
Crane Gold 1.7 roller rockers
24# injectors and C&L Mass Air meter
BBK shorty headers

So, is the 70 too big?

You might notice less pedal travel required to accelerate, but it would be slight and you will be fine. Is the opening in the upper port matched to 70mm?

Yeah, the upper is also 70mm. I now have to correct a whistling from the t-body. I'll pull it and smooth the edges and drill a small hole in the plate. That should do it.

Yeh it's to big!! Isn't bigger better?. Seriously, You can get use to the whistle ,it's kinda neat at times. Your right about in your build for a 70mm.

Does it run better than the GT40 and 65mm?

What do you think?

I would think so, I guess what I meant was is it night in day or just a little. Basically is it worth $500+ for a new one.

I haven't actually had a chance to really test the difference yet. Had to go to work early, and cs afterward. I think I may have to re-set the timing. I always leave the distributor in place when I do an intake swap, but now, with a/c and all, I had to pull the distributor out. I marked it, and it may be dead on, but I doubt it. It's still running strong though. I'll pull the throttle body and roll the lip on it, polish it inside, knife cut the blade and drill a small hole in it. That should clear up the whistle, it did with my 65. I still have to grab a pic, but I think I'm going to wait til I do some cleaning under the hood.

I like it, but have to get used to the new look. It's (the upper) also a lot heavier than the GT-40 by a lot.LOL.

This intake is quite a bit bigger. It covers all of the driver side valve cover unlike the others I've had, and like I said, I can't use my strut tower brace now. Guess I'll have to polish my Explorer intake and use it. Just kidding. I'll polish it and sell it when I have the time. That money will buy a replacement brace eventually.
I also had to buy replacement fasteners for the end studs. The factory supplied nuts require a special 1/4 inch drive 12 point 3/8 swivel socket. I figured it would be faster, cheaper, and easier to get standard nuts for it. They worked.

In the end, I think it gained a few horses and the throttle response is a little different as well. More as it happens.

UPDATE.......I got off work a little after 3:00 today, had to do a couple of cs, then went to a friends machine shop so we could time the engine. It was set at 20.LOL.  Now it's at 12 degrees and running really strong. I hate the whistle, but other than that, it's great. I'll fix the whistle tomorrow or Thursday.Sometimes the Sport reminds me just how awesome she can be.

It was at 20 all the way to the shop, and on my local early driving. No pinging, plenty of power, just a super short hesitation when I'd take off normally.

I let Ray tend to it, and never asked. I'm thinking about taking it back and moving up to 14 degrees. I've heard a lot of people say that they likes that timing setting with the TFS-1 cam and other mods similar to mine. Suggestions?
