Well, the search is over. I found a new car and picked it up tonight. It might not be as fuel efficient as the other cars I wanted, but I think I won't have a problem getting used to it.

And the winner is...

A 1985 Mercury Cougar

I have an unbroken hood latch handle and cable if you want to replace that one. Nice find!

y'know, looking at those pics again, I noticed, it looks great all over, inside and out, except for that engine. I just don't understand people who take such great care of their paint and their interiors, but just let the engine bay go to hell. I mean, ya don't have to detail the thing but at least spray it out every once in a while... Anyway I'm sure you'll clean it up at some point;) It does look like its in good shape, does it drive good? Gonna need suspension work probably?

Yeah, the engine bay is pretty sorry looking. I actually have only driven it down the street and back once. It seems to run pretty bad though. The engine is pretty sputtery, likes to die when put in gear, the radiator fan rubs the shroud... etc. Suspension feels fine, but feels super soft compared to my 86.

The previous owner (I'm cutting out the people who flipped it) is the original owner and her husband used to maintain the car meticulously but died some years ago. I imagine that the maintenance dropped off somewhat at that point. Also, this car came from the same place my truck did (St George, UT) and my truck had the red dirt in nearly every nook and cranny, just like this engine bay does.

Ed , That's the way the engine bay on Paula's cougar looked before I started cleaning it up a couple years ago. :poke:
