Interval Wiper Problem - 1986 Cougar XR7

Afternoon all !!

I've recently added the parts -n- pieces to my lovely Wife's Cougar to allow her to have those 'Interval Wipers' she has wanted for so long.

They worked just as described when first installed - but now I hear a 'Buzz' when the Wipers are turned Off.  On the Interval, Low and Hi Settings everything is just Fine!
... but when the Control in the 'Off' Position the 'Park' Relay Buzzes and the Wiper Arms stay 'Up'.

I have the Wiring Diagram... but I'd like to see a Component Level Schematic to see if I can Troubleshoot it to see what may be failing.

... any body know where that might be located ??

Thanks for ANY Assistance ! !! !

Do you want the EVTM diagram ?

Sounds like a bad interval control module thingy. I had one go bad in the SVO where the wipers wouldn't stop. I opened it up and flicked something in there and they stopped. See if that's where the buzzing is coming from.

From personal experence it sounds like the reverse went out of the wiper motor. I've chanded the wiper motor in mine when it happened and it was fine for quite a while and now this one is going bad and needs changed as well. Sometimes if you turn it off and on a few times it'll pull them back down and stop buzzing.

This worked for me as well. Make sure the windshield is wet and try turning it on and off a few times.

Okay... Got to ask just what that is ??

Yep  .. one of the Relays is the source of the Buzzing.
But I'm none-too-sure what the real culprit is.

....and I've 'flicked' everything on that circuit board that is 'flickable' and nothing change....darn it.

Nope....99.9% sure that the motor isn't the snag.

Here is the diagram from the 86 EVTM.

It may not be the motor itself, but the "park" module on the motor. As I recall I had the same problem with my '86 GS, so I removed the module from the motor housing by drilling out some rivets. There were copper contacts within that had developed corrosion, so I cleaned all the contacts and applied some dielectric grease. After putting it all back together, things worked well for several years.

This was 12 years ago, so I may have forgotten about several details. With that said, it's an easy job and nearly free if you want to try it before you tackle the relay(s).

OK...You Taught me something...Thanks! !
But I have that drawing.  I was looking for a schematic of the Actual Circuit Board.
... and that drawing doesn't have that info.

Yep - Tried that !

... but that noise is being generated by one of the Relays on that Control Board.

Try running an extra ground from where the factory ground is on the motor, to a good body ground. Worked on my old '86 Cougar.
