Could somebody please post a pic or describe in great detail how to connnect a floor shift cable to the shifter arm on the transmission?

I think I'm missing a piece or something cause I cant get it to work right. It either locks up the cable or is too loose to work, and I think I'm missing a washer or something. I don't know.

Somebody please help me. I'm trying to get this working tonight. And please don't post the link to erics site, I've been looking at that diagram and its not helping.

I can't get you a picture right now, but it sounds like you have the wrong connector on the end of the cable. The little bolt like connector on the end of the shifter arm has a raised spot that fits in the slotted end of the cable. The nut on the end tightens down to keep the cable from moving on the bolt. The bolt pivots on the end of the shifter arm so it doesn't bind. I had to tweak mine a little when I converted over to floor shift last year. Not even completely sure if my setup is from the right car. I know I had to use a couple parts off my Mark VII parts car to get it to work. When I get home form work, I'll try and find that bolt that I'm talking about and post a picture of it. I think I have an extra in my workshop.

ok thanks. I think I have the wrong part. My shifter and cable and bracket are from a sport but the trans is from a mn12 and I think some things are different, namely the slot in the shifter lever. I think I'm going to have to rig something up but if you can post a pic that would be great. If nobody gets one up by tomorrow I'll put up one of what I have.

I just got done with the swap so its dark and I'm tired and filthy and don't feel like taking a pic right now lol.

I believe that's your problem. The AOD lever doesn't have a slot. It has a post (I believe). I'll look at what I've got when I get home. You might be able to rig something up with a bolt that has a nut in the middle so you can tighten the side on the cable end and maybe use a cotter pin or something on the shift lever end. Just a thought.

oh I hope thats not the case. See I have a slot in the cable and the arm. I guess the simple solution if that is the problem would be to go back out to the yard and grab the right fasteners from another bird. I think the AODE is the same type of connection and theres a few of those out there. This one is an AOD just from a different car of course and actually used a different cable and mounting bracket so it wouldn't surprise me that there is something different about this too.

Here's what I found.... This is actually a lever from the column shift setup. According to Eric's site, you can use this by just flipping it upside down. I had the Mark VII parts car and I opted to use the lever from that. The bolt pushes into the plastic piece on the end of the lever. It's tight enough that it won't come out, but it will still pivot. The other end bolts into the slotted end of the shifter cable. The slot allows for a little bit of adjustment. I actually had to file my cable a little bit for it to line up just right. Hope this helps bro....

oh yeah. that's what it is. My shift lever is different from that in the respect that the hole where that bushing sits is in fact a slot just the perfect size for that bolt there to sit inside of, but not enough for the cable to bolt up correctly. So, I have two options, I can either, 1. Ream out the slot and make it big enough to fit that round hole through and then pin it in or equivalent, or I can 2. Go to the yard and get the right stuff for my setup.

I guess the detirmining factor will be whether or not I get out of work early enought to hit up the yard.... if not, then its getting rigged:hick:

One of the cables I found had two pieces of metal brazed into the slot to make a hole and then had one of the these pins jammed in it. Something like that might work for you. I thought it was kind of funny at the time, but now I'm thinking it obviously had a purpose.
