TurboCoupe Brake Booster?

So the brake booster has failed on my TurboCoupe, trying to brake before I decided to motor swap was like trying to move the earth with my legs

I've seen a couple different versions of brake boosters, the normal turbocoupe one which is a monster, has plugs in it and what not

and this neat little one. No plugs.

I'll assume the stock turbocoupe large one with plugs, is because of the ABS system?? I'm not keeping ABS in my swap, so would I be safe to get a neat little one? What brand/from what car could I buy one that it would bolt up and work great?

Thanks!

Jeff

I used an mustang booster it is smaller around and i was able to use a firewall clutch cable adjuster. I also went with the SVO MC (larger bore) Had to do some repiping but brakes work great.

23027,  do you mean "booster" or "master cylinder"?

I'd be interested in getting a part number for the smallest vaccuum brake booster that a bolt-in.

when I did mine I used a booster from an 85 bird and a master from an SVO mustang.  there is a write up on the nato board here http://www.turbotbird.com/techinfo/Converting_TC_ABS_MC_to_Vacuum_Assist_Brakes.htm

hope this helps.

Oooooohhh I see now! Composed of two parts, brake booster is the large round part, the brake master is what lines hook up to....

I was talking about the brake master cylinder! I see it's pretty simple and did find info that the TC ones are huge and have connections because of the ABS system.

Learning every day :)

The 87-88 Turbo Coupe unit is different than the regular vacuum assisted braking system found on earlier models.  It uses an electric pump to pressurize the brake fluid into a reservoir and stores it there under pressure until you press the brake.  There is no separate boosters on these models and the ABS stuff is built into the same unit.

Check out the following NATO article for more info on the system and troubleshoot it if you decide to.

Also, here is a how-to article on how to convert to the earlier style brake system (opens as a download)

Nah, I'm not keeping the ABS in this engine swap.

Thanks for all the responses! I ordered the 89 mustang booster and an svo master. Going to go by that tutorial. I was suprised that my local Lordco had them for about as much as it is to buy online. $30 for a master, $120 for the booster
