What to expect when sping a car? February 07, 2011, 01:33:36 PM I'm finished with my 87 TC parts car and need to get rid of it now. I looked through craigslist and called a couple of those "we buy any junk car, any year, any condition, title or not!" ads. Well apparently, they don't actually mean ANY condition because as soon as I mentioned it had no engine/tranny they said they couldn't do anything with it. I even have the title in my name as this car was my daily driver for a while.Should I rent a trailer and haul it to a s place myself? I'm concerned this method would actually cost money instead of making me money. Call one of the craigslist ads that ststes "free removal of junk cars," as they probably want it for s? Any other ideas? Quote Selected
What to expect when sping a car? Reply #1 – February 07, 2011, 01:34:57 PM Oh yeah, the car is in rolling shape because I put all the Cougar suspension back on it and it has tires that hold air also. Quote Selected
What to expect when sping a car? Reply #2 – February 07, 2011, 01:43:16 PM You can probably rent a tow bar cheap and still make a couple of hundred. Harbor freight sells tow bars for like 60 bucks to. Quote Selected
What to expect when sping a car? Reply #3 – February 07, 2011, 02:08:51 PM I've just had the guys come get them and haul them away for free and I assume they just take them in for s themselves. Worth it to me just to get it out of the way, and avoid the hassle of trying to get it someplace myself. They even hauled it onto a flatbed as just a shell (no suspension). Quote Selected

What to expect when sping a car? Reply #6 – February 07, 2011, 04:19:42 PM Would you be up for yanking the carpet out before he comes? As long as it's not nasty or terribly torn and cleanable I would be interested in it, Plus it saves me alot of work at the junkyard. I know it seems heavy, But as soon as you pull the dampening off the back it should weigh about 11 pounds.Just fold it up, Shrink wrap it up and mail it out?No worries if not. or if it's in bad shape. What to expect when sping a car? Reply #11 – February 07, 2011, 06:03:42 PM If you would've hauled it off yourself you could have gotten in the $2-350 range even with no engine and tranny, given you had the means to do it, that's what I got for my old cougar, with no motor, tranny, gastank, almost gutted interior, no light buckets, etc. Then again, sometimes it is easier to just let someone else deal with it. What to expect when sping a car? Reply #12 – February 07, 2011, 06:10:20 PM Last check s out here was $9. a hundred. I have had some cars really weighed down and never got close to 2-350. I need to use your s play 20th, lol Quote Selected
What to expect when sping a car? Reply #13 – February 07, 2011, 07:18:55 PM The U-Pull-It's around here will give you a price based on factory vehicle tonnage I think, which is great because they don't care if it's missing anything. I sold them a rolled shell of an SHO one time, no motor, not a usable part on it, for $175, and they towed it away. Now, I managed to get $350 for a 94 T-bird from a private U-Pull yard, but that was pretty much a full car. And they towed it away as well. The problem with Vegas, is that the yards are so far away, it's not worth the drive to go get the car, so I can imagine you having trouble getting much for it.I just took a small load to the metal recyclers, and I think we're at about $250/Ton right now for steel.Electric motors are $0.30/Pound, and 6061 Alum is $0.75/Pound Quote Selected
What to expect when sping a car? Reply #14 – February 07, 2011, 08:01:54 PM When you s a car here, there is an enviormental fee. They will not take a car at a s yard unless you have the fluids and whatnot drained at a state approved facility. Otherwise, you have to cut it up. Last car I junked, I got about $75 with engine and tranny. In running shape, a junkyard will give $150 to $200.Just sping a set of heads and junk tranny got me like $40 or $50 a couple of years ago.
