New ignition switch - sloppy movement November 26, 2010, 01:20:57 PM I decided to replace my ignition switch today (good thing I did, there were 2 burnt contacts and there was gappage between the plastic and metal parts) and after I got the new one installed, the movement in the switch is sloppy. It seems like it skips the "ON" position, I have to manually hold the key forward to the "ON" position to get the relays to click and the fuel pump to come on, otherwise the key just kind of falls back. Could the new switch be faulty, or maybe I just need a new lock cylinder as well? Quote Selected
New ignition switch - sloppy movement Reply #1 – November 26, 2010, 01:24:23 PM Sounds like you got a bum quality switch. The detents are contained within it. I would try another one. Quote Selected
New ignition switch - sloppy movement Reply #2 – November 26, 2010, 01:30:26 PM sounds like it could be either.. i would take the lock cylinder out and see if it has a lot of play.. if it's ok than i would exchange the switch for another Quote Selected
New ignition switch - sloppy movement Reply #3 – November 26, 2010, 01:35:34 PM Well the lock cylinder was fine with the old switch in there. I'm thinking bad switch though. I know the switch's have a spring inside them and I think that may be the cause. I really need to get a Motorcraft switch, but right now I don't have the time to wait for one to be ordered. Looks like I will return this one for another. Quote Selected
