5 lug, and lowered or not..

I'm kicking around an idea for upcoming 5 lug/bigger brakes and possibly lowering the car.

I know that the '94-'95 spindles are pretty well the number one thing to grab, but are '96-'04 spindles feasible? I know they'll increase track width on the front, and that the tie rod mounts are lower.

Which brings to me to the next question. Are offset rack bushings feasible with stock '88 controls arms and k member, '96+ spindles, and a lowered car?
(I've looked and then some, can't seem to find a definite, 100% answer)

If I have to lower it to avoid bumpsteer, about how much?

It will see some gravel driving, rough streets and the like, but nothing severe, or I'll go around it.
I don't have a problem with lowering it, but I don't want it to the point where it takes me 20 minutes to go 3/4 mile on gravle from the highway to my driveway lol

There's always '96+ stuff in the yards, whereas '94-'95 shiznit is pretty well snagged as soon as they get 'em in.

Thoughts, opinions? :D

I'm in the process of removing my lowering springs and going back to a more stock ride.  The roads around here are  and I'm tired of the rough ride and bottoming out everywhere!

Thanks gumby, I think that pretty well got it through my thick skull lol

In short: '96-'04 Spindles will ONLY work on a Fox IF a MM k member is used..check.

Since I don't really want to buy a new k member, the search is on for '95-'95 stuff. :hick:

I know this thread is a month or so old but I found my 94-95 spindles here:

http://www.car-parts.com

Just type in the data and it gives you all the salvage yards in the country with the parts.  May take a couple of phone calls but you can typically find a set for $100 shipped.

I had the 96+ spindles on my Coupe with a stock K-member and had the tapered bump steer kit installed on it and never really noticed a problem.  I had the H&R Sport springs and Tokico Illumina dampers so it was low but not like it is now with the coil overs.  You will most likely be fine on a daily driver as most of the bump steer issues are compounded by the rigors of racing.

I've read on a few other places where someone has used '96+ spindles on a lowered car with a bumpsteer kit and never had much, if any problems...
Hard to decide if I want to gamble, and have them fairly soon for pretty cheap (20 bucks for both if I pull 'em) or err on the side of caution and wait an eternity lol

If I have problems, I may just move the location of the rack.  Seems like a pretty simple solution actually

Yeah, offset rack bushings may help, but I have no experience with this stuff. I want mine lowered, but not too terribly much, I live on a gravel road, and a lot of the streets in the nearest towns are pretty shiznitty too...

I'd be willing to try it, but I don't have a lot of money for mistakes lol. Then again, nothing is one and done on my car, I've had to do things about 3 times over before I got 'em right. shaging car is a test of my patience and sanity, and both were in short supply when I bought it in Feb '09 lmao.

A watts link locates the rear axle more precisely side-to-side.  It uses a central bellcrank to eliminate any arc from its up-down motion.  The bellcrank can be mounted either on the differential cover (left) or on the chassis (right).

This is my next upgrade after the car is back together.

I've never had any issues with 96-98 spindles and stock replacement tie rod ends. Just get a set of MM C/Cs, and alignment and set of their rack bushings (cheap and you will be in the neighborhood) and you "should" be all set.
