It's finally over!

I have been living in my current house for over three years. My street is a dead-end street with 4 houses on it in close proximity to each other. I have neighbors across the street (the street is 10ft. wide MAX) who continue to want to start trouble. Calling the cops on me and my family and arguing back and forth, about nothing. Threatening my kids and wife, me, my dogs, saying vulgar things to 8,10,and 11 year old kids. It is seeming like the choas has no end.

It is mostly the mother of the three children that live over there who starts the trouble. Then one of the daughter's (who is 16 BTW) chimes in and yells and bullies my kids. I have gone to the police on several occasions, and since they beleive nothing "criminal" is going on, they can't do anything about it. Police come out here at least once a week and are really getting tired of the BS that happens, but I don't know how to stop it. We have tried ignoring them, but that seems to egg them omn even more.

Now, I talked to one of the Sargeants at my PD and he has told me that she has been doing this to people for 13 years. I tracked down the person who owned my house before me, and he had the same problems.

Now, I am not saying that I never say anything and I'm just the perfect citizen, because I sure am not.

When it comes to the kids not being able to play outside, or me not wanting to go fix up my car, because of havingto deal with all this, something's gotta be done. I feel like a prisoner in my own home.

We (my wife and I) are at the point now where we are going to let the bank forclose on our house and just move out. We have tried selling for over a year with no luck. I can't afford to pay rent on another house and pay for this one. It seems I am running out of options.

Sorry for the long rant, but I don't really know what to do. If one of you guys were in a tight spot like this, what would you do?

Rather than foreclosure, see if the bank will do a short sale on the house. That might help you guys move out of there, sooner.

dont let the house go(quit paying and forclose) if your planning on moving, that will follow you around for a long time. trust me.

do your neighbors own thier home or rent?
are you aware of the laws and such of your township(assuming you live in one)?
you got a security camera and a vcr?(if not they are 20 bucks at harbour frieght)

just a piece of advice, if you live in a glass house dont throw stones at your neighbors, they may throw them back.

Anywhere but here LOL Really though, looking to move closer to Nashville, where I work. Robertson/Cheatham county (and they don't have emissions testing;) ) Bank won't do a short sale, not a lot of people want a 532 sq. ft. house with an unfinished basp00get.

Not too sire on their sutuation, I know they don't own, the owner of the house owes a lot of back taxes on the home (anda bunch of other rental properties as well) and the county took it, how they are still living there I don't know, but they have been living there almost 15 years.

Have a camera, showed cops the stuff, but lke I said before, according to them they aren't doing anything criminal. Don't live in a township, live within the city limits, sooo, city law applies.

Work on your car,o you're own thing. If they are yelling,let them yell. She may be wanting to upset you, and when it does,she wins. What can she do toy you? If she damages your property, or if they even touch you or a family member, you have them. You could always tell the police you and your family feel threatened, make sure everything is written up and on the record. In a sense, the police work for you, and the community. Put them to work. Don't accept "no" as an answer. Make sure that you and yours are doing what you need to do (not disturbing the neighborhood,noise,etc.). As stated above,if you're bothering them,there's not much you can say when they bother you. What usually starts this behavior from them? What reason would they call the police on you? What kind of threats are they making? I feel there may be more to the story that we're not hearing. Report the daughter to the police as a bully (good timing with it in the news so much lately),and be assertive.

So there's probably no homeowner's association, either?

Don't really have any ideas other than moving, which you've already thought of.
Hate to think of anyone letting their home go and having bad credit just because of idiot neighbors, but if you're moving, or plan to soon, that may be a painful but feasible option...IF you can find a place to rent long-term, or otherwise not be left in the cold, home-wise.

I guess maybe a short consultation with some attorney who is well versed in your city's laws might be the first step I'd take.

And I'd think that if the owner of the house was in arrears over back taxes, they'd (the city) be in a hurry to seize it, sell, and recoup that money.

Wish I had a better idea or an option..

Me, I would probably go over and talk to them. Tell them the ol' "why can't we just get along" jazz. Sometimes people just are incompatible though... Sometimes people are just plain nuts too. If all else fails, and you want to do something perfectly legal, but drastic:

Look the house up on the county auditor's website, make sure who owns it. If the county actually does own it (which they usually don't, they seize it and sell it at sheriff sale to another slumlord), notify them that there are squatters on the premises.

Or, find out how much the county would sell it for. Buy a prepaid cellphone, and list the house for sale on craigslist. Act as a broker and sell it. I have seen many ads that say "unable to show inside, dwelling is occupied, please do not disturb tennants". You might even make a couple bucks on the deal.

That's one drastic way.

how much are the back taxes? if you can pay them (one way or another), you may be able to buy it from the bank for that price....then tell them to leave after you own it, then rent it out after you do some fixin up.

You are right, there are certain things of the story I have left out. Back when we first moved in, our kids and their kids (remember now, mine are 8, 10, and 11, theirs are 14,16,and 17) would fight a lot, and our youngest liked to throw rocks. Well, he ended up breaking a window, (which was fully repaired by me at no cost to them) and after that, it was one argument after another, by both of our households. Now, we keep a keen eye on the kids and what they are doing and who they are talking to, and have fully ignored them for the past 4 or 5 months, hoping the problem would just stop. One of the culprits (neigbors) being my younger brother (who is now 21) whom I had to kick out of my house about a year ago for a lot of bad reasons - he was into a lot of bad stuff (robbing homes, doing drugs, etc) and I could not have that in my house with my kids. He is actually dating the 16 yo daughter.(which apparently is not illegal here - I tried) When this happened, he went to go live with them, and thats when stuff really got bad. I'm not sure why. Yes, when they yell, I used to yell, and show my ass just as much as they would. But I have stopped for some time now, just learning to ignore anything they say. I am not saying I have never done anything to them, as far as yelling and name calling and whatnot, but never once have I threatened them or damaged their property. One weekend, I took the family camping (thispast 4th of July, I beleive) and came home to an egged house, and car, and a broken window. I could not prove it was them, so the cops could do nothing. They must thrive on drama.

As far as the cops go...... All of the PD knows all of us by a first name basis, and are fully aware of what goes on here all the time, and quite frankly, they are sick of coming out here for this BS. But, I had a warrant put out for my brother (which really pained me to do) for domestic assault for when he picked up my son by his shirt and pushed him on the ground. Tomorrow we have to go in front of a judge to get a petition of arrest (or something like that) for the 16 y.o daughter who punched my youngest in the eye some time ago (again, the cops didn't see it, so they can do nothing - thats what they tell us) because she's a minor. But all this has just made stuff worse, it seems. The mother, is planning something, while outside working on my Mark today I could barely overhear her saying something on the phone, but I couldn't exactly make out exactly what she was saying. God only knows what she's thinking about now.

Well,perhaps,as already stated, you just need to suck it up, go knock on the door pleasently and ask to talk.It could be that they ythink the same thing about you,and you two need to find a middle ground. You may be surprised (or may not),but you need to try.Perhaps you two just need to understand where each other is coming from.
