This is almost how Red Fender beat me, but the 'underbird will be tamed.

that's right, it's a 97.. (just looked at your sig).. they had 3.8's and 4.6's, no 5.0.. and no SC's :(

HEI or MSD box is the way to go for ease of build.. if you want to make it complicated, go EFI :D

Nah, MSD works, for me :rollin:

Now, do I get the computer reprogrammed for the new engine, or do I do away with the computer and get a wiring harness from say a Mustang?

if you're going carb, your harness and any efi harness is obsolete.. all you need is an ignition-on hot wire, whether you're going HEI or MSD

How many miles are on it? My 95 has just over 88,000 on it and it's holding up fine so far. I do change the coolant every year just as a precaution. When the head gaskets do let go the car is gone however.....

If you don't have the money for a new engine I would stop driving the car right now. If you get the oil too diluted you will kill the main bearings really quick. A head gasket job isn't that bad and cheaper than a new engine.....

Too bad I've got cast internals. I'd be in the same position with power adders on the current engine as I am, now. Spend money and have the engine go south.

I've got less than 97,000 miles on the 'underbird. With that being said, the 'underbird is my second car, making it the third car in the family. So, it doesn't get driven very often, to begin with.

I've been told it's an relatively easy deal to do the head gaskets, but then I lose my excuse to add the two-cylinder bolt on kit :(

yeah but to be on the safe side, you should have the heads milled.. as for a power adder, you can go that route, just not too far. the cast internals can take a little boost psi.. i just don't know how much on a 3.8

Don't talk like that.You don't want to try to tame it...you have to have an "understanding". I tried to tame my blue T-Bird,and the more I fought,the more it fought back. With the Sport,I take care of her,she takes care of me.We have an "understanding". .... a mutual respect if you will. It sounds crazy,but it's working.

See, I think the 'underbird was telling me, "hey, jackass, I'm not a slow car, I can be the most bad ass car at the track, too." So, in order to show me the way it is going to be, she puked the headgasket. Oh well ...shiznit happens, right?

She and I talked this morning. I told her, "I'm gonna give you an engine low to the ground... extra thick oil pan to cut the wind from underneath you. It'll give you thirty or forty more horsepower. I'm gonna give you a fuel line that'll hold an extra gallon of gas. I'm gonna shave half an inch off you and shape you like a bullet. I'll get you primed, painted and weighed, and you'll be ready to go out on that racetrack. Hear me? You're gonna be perfect."
