Overheating the Sport.....

I can't answer that unless I just made up an answer.It's a compressor I had for some time waiting for this day. It's like the factory unit,but newer.I believe it was a reman. unit.I really can't remember when or where I got it.I do know it was still wrapped and packaged for about two years until I opened it about a month or so ago.

My '88 3.8 came stock with an Hr-980. I'm guessing that's what yours came with too, but idk for certain...

Not to be negative (it's great having A/C, especially here in Fl) but I've heard those HR-980 compressors don't handle R134 that well. I can't name the source of this info though because I was in the process of replacing my compressor a couple of years ago, so I just don't remember. Some guy from a dealership in Ft Lauderdale ended up mailing my mechanic one and we recharged it with the old R-12.

Everything original to the car is looooooong gone.Everything but the condenser and harness for the a/c was replaced. As I said,two of the three lines were custom built to fit my engine bay (strut tower brace,etc.),one with the dryer was brand new (I got it brand new for $9.00 on a lucky ebay score a year or two ago),new Good Year belt,replacement a/c bracket,steering pump and compressor.  I can't ask for any more than they (Olde and New) did for the Sport.Very good work,and they stand behind their work.They have been around here for 17 years,and do no advertising.All word of mouth. Really great guys,and very honest.I dig that a lot.

I thought they might have used the same ones. I know they used the HR-980 on the the TC's and SVO's.

Why didn't the V-8 get them?

I have NO idea.Perhaps it's how they mount up.I'd need to see a pic of the HR-980 to see the difference.

That's what my factory compressor looks like.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

 Yes there is,  a  cut off switch from a R134 equipped crown Vic or F series is a direct swap  :D

I actually think the switch (if it's the one on the dryer/accumulator) did come from a Crown Vic cop car....yellow on the bottom.I really didn't look to see if he used it or replaced it.
