Earl September 04, 2010, 11:27:01 AM Anyone on the east coast been affected by Earl? Nova Scotia is experiencing the full brunt of it right now, I've got tree branches all over my yard and the power just went out (thank God for the generator if it ends up staying out for a while). The news is reporting lots of damage everywhere - one reporter was doing a live broadcast from Halifax and a tree fell on a minivan full of people right behind her. Quote Selected
Earl Reply #1 – September 04, 2010, 12:06:03 PM I'm in VA, it's a gorgeous day here. We got like a ten minute shower last night and that was about it. Quote Selected
Earl Reply #2 – September 04, 2010, 03:43:30 PM The eye passed directly over here. It was just a tropical storm, albeit a strong one (70MPH winds). I lost one small tree in my yard, and everything is absolutely covered in small bits of leaves. A mobile home down the road was crushed by a tree, but thankfully it was vacant. Still no power. It was kinda neat to see the eye - when Juan passed over in 2003 it was a much more powerful storm (110MPH sustained winds with gusts to 160) and did much more damage, but the actual eye did not pass over my house. The eastern eyewall was about 5 miles west of me in Juan. This storm was the first time I actually experienced the eye. It was raining and blowing like hell from the southeast, then it suddenly got really calm and the sun was out for about 10 minutes (but I could still hear the storm surrounding me), then it suddenly got really windy again from the northwest and started pouring again. Earl Reply #5 – September 04, 2010, 10:36:22 PM That's cool about being inside the eye, glad you didn't suffer any significant damage... Earl passed by here Thur, but was far enough off s we only got gusts of maybe 35-40mph, had more junk in my yard from the neighbors trees during a storm about six weeks ago... Got very little rain, guessing no more than a tenth of a inch... Quote Selected
