Went on a road trip to the Hearst Castle in California a few weeks ago...

We wanted to take a little weekend trip a couple of weeks ago so we decided to go to California.  For our first stop we stopped in the restored ghost town of Calico.  Pretty cool place but it didn't have the old feeling since only a couple of the buildings were original.  After checking in to our hotel (could see the ocean out our window!) we decided to get some food.  There is NO fast food in this town or any of the surrounding towns and after looking at the menus in the hotel we decided we weren't going to spend 15 bucks per person for dinner.  So being the cheapskates that we are we drove 35 miles inland to a McDonald's.  The next morning we went to our main attraction, the Hearst Castle.  The only problem was tickets were sold out until noon.  Bummer.  We bought out tickets and then went to play on the beach for a while and watched some elephant seals for a while.

The castle was well worth the wait.  If anybody gets a chance to see it I highly recommend it.  We took some pictures, but they don't allow you to use the flash so most of them are kind of blurred or dark.  Enjoy!

I was at Hearst Castle and wondered how upset they would have been if I jumped in the pool!

Didn't the pools look sooooo inviting?

Hahahaha, its funny you say that.  When we got home I asked my wife "Do you think anybody ever just jumps in the pool?"  Like obviously they would get kicked out, but it might be worth it to them.  I am sure it has happened.  The tour guide said the Hearst family gets to use the house after tour hours and they go swimming in it all the time.  She also said they let all the Hearst Castle staff go swimming in it one day a year.  I will say, the pools did look VERY inviting.

Yea, they are missing a big business opportunity. :D

I would have paid $10 to jump in for 15 minutes!

The staff gets to use the pools one day a year....how nice..
