Turbo blowing oil

Hi
I have an 86 Turbo Cougar that has had an 88 Turbo Coupe setup with intercooler. The previous owner did not have a good seal on the turbo and I drove it about 50 miles home. It has started blowing oil in the turbo and possibly the intercooler. Turbo still works..Is the setup shot or can I salvage it? It started smoking on me and I shut it down.. any help would be appreciated..turbo illiterate

you need to check the turbo  for shaft play.

it is not uncommon for there to be a coating of oil in the turbo, part of the PCV system  routs oil vapor from the valve cover to the inlet of the turbo.

but if your blowing smoke out of the tail pipe all the time, then there are issues that need to be delt with

Thank you. It is not blowing oil out the back. I just had oil in the turbo and I thought that was not a good thing..
