raw gas smell

Just recently I've been smelling a moderate level of a raw gas smell when I open my car after letting it sit overnight or at work all day.  Don't really smell anything outside the car, no noticeable leaks.  Any ideas?  I'm wondering if maybe the charcoal canister is plugged?  But not sure that'd make the smell be IN the car???

Thanks!

Check the hoses in and out of the charcoal canister for cracks. Also, the canister may need to be replaced.

Thanks for the tips...however this one now falls under the category of "user error".  I had brought my lawnmower gas can to the station a few days ago, and filled it, but forgot to take it out of the trunk when I got home!  DUH!  :hick:

Luckily, it is a 2gal one and it's got decent lids, so nothing leaked...just some fumes.

All is fine now...with the car anyway...the operator on the other hand...not so sure about him ;)
