Factory 5.0 Headers? July 11, 2010, 10:53:35 AM Since the engine in my Sport is a S.O. 5.0, I'm thinking about installing some factory 5.0 headers (1 1/2" primaries) and converting to a true dual exhaust. I'm wondering though if those factory 5.0 headers would mate properly to a 2 1/2" aftermarket h-pipe. I thought I read where someone said those headers don't mate well with aftermarket h-pipes.Anyone have any experience with this? Quote Selected
Factory 5.0 Headers? Reply #1 – July 11, 2010, 11:11:04 AM That's exactly what you have to do. If the s on the aftermarket h-pipe are made for the tubular headers, as opposed to the standard passenger car manifolds, it should work. All the aftermarket stuff was made to be compatible with the oem headers ball-and-socket type . The standard passenger car mainfolds (on the SO 5.0) have a more flat that may cause problems when mated to the ball-and-socket deal. Quote Selected

Do you know for a fact that they have ball and socket-style s on them? Quote Selected

Factory 5.0 Headers? Reply #4 – July 11, 2010, 11:26:27 AM Well that's good to know Daryl. Until I'm making more power the factory 5.0 headers are all I need. When I do start making more power, I can always replace the factory 5.0 headers with aftermarket ones. That will work out great. Quote Selected

Factory 5.0 Headers? Reply #9 – July 11, 2010, 01:07:27 PM I just did this last month. I believe the factory headers are set up for a 2 1/4" pipe. But there are 2 1/2" aftermarket setups out there. I used a 2 1/4" Magnaflow catted h-pipe on mine (part # 93337). Just remember, the O2 sensors relocate from the passenger car manifold to the h-pipe. There are no O2 bungs on the oem headers. This may require lengthening the wires or replacing with O2 sensors with the extended leads. Quote Selected

I really like Magnaflow products. I'm looking forward to getting that py, y-pipe bottleneck off my car. I'll tell you that. Thanks again to both you and Daryl for helping me out with this. :D Quote Selected
