Booster and M/C question....

Would swapping the booster and M/C from a V-8 Fox Stang work as a direct replacement for my standard issue parts? I have access to them in great working order,and I think I need to swap the M/C,so the booster isn't much more work.

You didn't say what year, but since you have the drums on the back it should. You may need a adapter for one line, but I'm not positive about that.

Can you get a link for that? I may just get a stock replacement M/C since I have stock brakes anyway.No need to invest a lot into stock parts when I'll probably upgrade next year.

The MC shows to be the same for an 88 Mustang LX V-8 and and 88 T-Bird Sport V-8.  The boosters are different between the two cars but I do know they bolt up.  A 93 Mustang Cobra booster will drop right in and if you are going to the larger Cobra brakes on these cars front and back it is the way to go.

Vinnie, you have a firewall adjuster for your clutch cable,and a stock-type booster on there now?

I have stock parts.....22 years old...That's what I have.I want a Mustang booster and new M/C. I think mine have reached the end of the road....so to speak.

No he doesn't, because it won't work. I think that's what he wants to no. He never did say what year the stang parts are coming from. but they will work. as long as there late 80's or 90 ish. That cobra MC is definably a good option for him and the future.

The booster...M/C assembly is from a '91.

I've got an adjustable and a stock booster on mine, but it was a real PITA to get it in there, and I don't have very much adjustment (read: not enough) with it. A 'Stang booster is in my future.

I had to take a piece of 2x4 and a rubber mallet and a good hard slap with it to go in...on the tranny end, had to get creative with some big nuts over the end of the cable to get the adjustment I need...it works, and it'll hold, but it isn't right, and isn't "pretty", but it does what it needs to for now.

I'll scare up a pic if there's any naysayers :rollin:

I believe you,but I'd still like to see the pics.I want a fiewall adjuster as well,but I'm waiting until I install the Stang booster.

Vinnie,

If you decide go the route of full disc brakes via the SN-95 Mustangs then I would advise you not to get the booster off of a 94-95 Mustang as they do not share the same bolt pattern as the Fox cars firewall wise.  It can be done but the extra $$ for the 93 Cobra booster is worth the cuss words as it is a drop in.

I run the SN-95 booster and M/C on my 93 Mustang Coupe with the Cobra brakes and ABS.  The booster install was a challenge but it eventually went in.  On the Bird I used a 95 GT MC and the 93 Cobra booster with the Cobra brakes but no ABS due to the Fox length axles in the rear.  The booster install was a snap and bolted right up.

Both cars have firewall adjusters and no clearance problems.

Lies! I just got mine installed and it took most of yesterday! I shortened all studs like 3/4 of an inch. and had to grind away the two innermost firewall holes quite a bit at a 45 degree angle towards the middle of the car, along with add a slight angle to the outer firewall holes. Then with a rubber mallet, it popped in but my paint job on the booster is now shot. A lot of put in place, pull out, and repeat. Even with things disconnected, the main wiring harness and ac line were a pain. I put tape over my valve cover but I still got a chip in my powder coat.

I'm not sure why I had to go through such extremes but it's in and works so much better than my stock, leaky booster. 1 1/8" MC.

People should know that there's a chance that the booster upgrade may not be as easy as some people claim on the internet. I'm thinking it's slightly variances in booster and chassis. I know the studs on the reman booster were about 3/8" longer than the stock one so removing that much from the studs wasn't enough. At least it's in now...

A 90 mustang booster works. why make this thread so complicated.
If all you want to do is get a fire wall adjuster working it's all you need.
It will also work with 4 disc well.

I agree!!! I replaced mine with one from with an advanced auto and it was a total bitch but now it works pier then the stock one, so I am going to get one from a parts house. I guess I am going to get one from a mustang since I need that adjuster.
