what should i do. (got scamed)

so i was in the market for a 5-speed setup for my mustang and found a guy a few towns away from me  selling the whole setup out of his car for 500 bucks. so he says i need the cash upfront . (i was talking to the  guy and seemed cool so...) so we meet up one night i give him the cash. he says i should have it out in no more than a week and a half at the most so he says he got the trans ready to come out but the pedals were gonna be tough fine i know it's a big job.  so all was well till i talked to him the other day and he tells me that another guy wants to buy the whole car . and this guy has a worldclass trans and pedals already. and i told him im not sure i'll get back to him. and that was the last i talked to him. and now he wont pickup the phone when i call.  so im thinking like till the end of the week if i dont here form him im gonna tell him give up the trans or money or se ya in court.  .  what do you guys think.

i would take a ride to his town but it's a big town so to find him may be tough.

i have a message on my phone saved of him telling me he wants to set up a date about the trans and also a paper stating what i get for how much.

why cant people be honest.

You can kiss your money goodbye.  If you didn't get his name, address or a reciept or anything then there isn't much you can do.

Was it a cell phone or a home phone number.

If it is his home phone this will help.
Just enter his area code and number and there you have it.

Anything I'd have to say about it might not go over well with our resident Pauly Law. :p

I'm mostly just kidding. You need to see what info you can find from that phone number. However, there may come a point at which you will have to consider just how much time is worth spending chasing after the money. When I got scammed for the $100 or so, yeah I did a few things to try and deal with the guy.. I think I got him banned from Ebay.. and got a whopping dollar back on sellers fees in the process.. but trying to do much beyond that was almost counter-productive. You're dealing with more, but still in the grand scheme of things isn't a hideous amount of money to lose. It's not going to put you out of a home or anything like that.

(my loss would be considered almost trivial by most, but since I have so little money coming in right now it was a huge deal to me.. so who can say what this loss means to you.. could be more significant, or could be not a huge deal after the anger has subsided. Personally, I'd be 5x more upset.. heh)

If it were someone really close to me, honestly if I couldn't get the money back I'd probably (don't look, Paul) :p *consider* doing at least that amount of money in damage to something of theirs. (OK, you can look again, Paul) :p But you're sort of in a pickle.. he's a few towns over.. not exactly really close.. but not like half a country away on a bad Ebay deal. I don't know.

, I've said a whole lot, but also said not much at all. Hope there's something useful in this.

$500 would put me out on the street lol, try looking them up through the posted link or go to the small town and ask around, you at least have a name right?

And if he wont give you whats yours teach him that stealing is wrong, kinda like bird mentioned. I hate theives :D

I spent 4 months fighting with a guy over $40 on ebay AND I got it back

Hey I got boned for $700 in a similar deal. Was gonna get a whole motor when I needed one and dude wasn't going to pull it till I paid. I knew the guy, my friends knew him...Everyone said he was good for it.  Well after I paid him he disappeared forever! So I know it hurts now but its a good leason for you. Your better off getting burned for little bit of money now than alot later in life.

Speaking of t-5 setups there is a guy on the corral that has eveything for $750 and he is in NJ... heres the link http://www.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?t=639676
