sequential taillights in a turbo coupe May 06, 2010, 06:20:32 PM My 01 mustang gt has sequential taillights and I was wondering if anyone makes a wiring harness to do the same on the turbo coupe I just bought.. Here's a video of a mustang(not mine) that has em in case you don't know what i'm talking about.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPusz_BDcl0&feature=related Quote Selected

sequential taillights in a turbo coupe Reply #4 – May 06, 2010, 08:13:37 PM They seem to flash to quickly to me, is the speed adjustable. Of course I am comparing it to the sequentials in my 65 Bird so maybe thats my issue Quote Selected

sequential taillights in a turbo coupe Reply #6 – May 07, 2010, 12:00:01 AM You can certainly do this with your existing wiring harness. Get the kit that you just splice the sequencer into the existing wiring. It's much cheaper that way. The kit I got for my Mustang came with extra sockets to make all three sections functional. The only thing you will need to do for the taillamps on your bird is enlarge the socket hole so a standard Ford socket can go in... That include making the hole the right size and then filing some notches for the socket tabs to engage and turn when they are installed. As far as sequencing, this is very dependent on how fast your flasher operates. On my Mustang they flash pretty fast. I wish they were a tad slower. The classic Fords had a much slower flash rate. If you use a non variable standard flasher the flash rate should slow down when you add more bulbs. If you notice the flash rate increases when a bulb goes out. Now if you use an electronic flasher or a thermal one designed for heavier loads, they have a consistant flash rate no matter how many bulbs you have, the flash rate will of course not slow down. On the sequential system I have, the brake lamps sequence once. It annoyed me at first because it was not like a Ford factory setup, but I like it now. They do make kits that have a controllable flash rate and do not sequence the brake lamps.I am still trying to come up with a design that will allow me to add sequential lamps to my 84 Tbird. Since I switched to 85-86 taillamps it will be easier since there is no back-up lamp in the center. I just have to work out a way to install a bulb in the center and provide blinds on each side of the center section for definition between the lighted sections. I have considered flat LED boards since they require little room to install behind the lens. There is a good space behind the center of the taillamp lens between the two main sections, but not really enough for a standard incadescent bulb. I will have sequentials on this Tbird because it is a hallmark of classic models. I just have to work out the execution. My only other alternative is to buy a 1987-88 Tbird... LOL!I tell you what I do not like... Lame sequentials used in only two section taillamps... Like the Camaro... why bother? Now what is cool is I have seen some LED type replacements light up in a starburst pattern from center to perimeter of the lens. These look cool on classic Tbirds and other Fords with the single round taillamps! Quote Selected

It has more to do with the faster flasher rate on modern cars. Quote Selected

It has more to do with the faster flasher rate on modern cars. I think you are right about the flash rate and modern cars. The speed of the three lights is due to the speed of the flasher. If there were four lights, they would have to flash in the same total amount of time as the three do. It doesn't matter how many lights are involved. Like you said, it has to do with the speed of the flasher. Either way, they are kind of cool. Quote Selected
